Sure.... Just like any other site protects you...
Are you protected? Do you have a firewall? Anti virus? (Updated) If you have wireless, do you have encryption?
Do you use passwords? Even on your own system? Does your wireless system braodcast it's name?
No website protects you. The only true protection is to disconnect from the internet AND keep your computer in a bank vault.

Please elaborate on your question. There are many here that could help with your concerns.

I've not put my CC info into my profile let alone personal information, even the email address I have is one I use for all forums I visit and is a SPAM account.

If they hack an account they might what? Rant about how bad 347 is? Try to post personal information regarding city officials?
