Alert | Is anyone using Qwest DSL with Vonage? I've had periodic issues using Orbitel and Vonage in that I can't reliably do a phone call and NetMeeting simultaneously. I need something more reliable for work and I'm wondering if switching to Qwest for DSL would help. I don't want to switch my phone to Qwest as I like my Phoenix area code and I like cheap/free calls to Asia and Europe.
For $5 more/month than Orbitel, I know Qwest offers 7Mbps down/~1Mbps up. Is anyuse using Qwest DSL with Vonage, and if so, what is your experience and speeds. Thanks.

Alert | | Are you sure it's $5 more per month? Orbitel is $40 and Qwest is $35. I used Packet8 with Qwest with no problems whatsoever. | | Joined: Jul 2005

Alert | | The Qwest folks at the Chandler mall quoted $45/mo for 7Mbps if we had no other services with them. If we got phone or DirecTV, it did drop to $35/mo. Is there a way to get Qwest DSL for $35/mo as a standalone service?

Alert | | we used to have qwest DSL and vonage. HATED the vonage phone service. not at all reliable. couldn't hear maybe 20% of calls. sometimes would pick up the phone and just get nothing. we kept the qwest and dumped the vonage and i have had no problem with calls whatsoever.

Ah, didn't realize you didn't have phone service with Qwest. That would be where the $45 comes from. | | Joined: Jul 2005

Alert | Vonages has been having issues as of late. turns out their broadband "routers" are actually being used as a "network" for other vonage users. make sure your internet provider does not cap your bandwidth or you may see some major issues. Due to this "networking" your internet will seem slower with Vonage on line.
Keep an eye out for a local provider with a fiber network to be providing voiP soon.

Alert | | I am using my IP phone from work with Qwest DSL and the only times I have issue is when Qwest goes offline, normally its a few times between 2pm and 3pm otherwise it works fine.

Alert | skgiro: When I first moved to Maricopa (approx 8 months) I tried Qwest with Vonage and didn't have a very positive experience. The call quality was poor which I blame on bandwidth issues. After several frustrating calls to Vonage's tech support center in New Dehli, I decided to send the whole Vonage pkg back and cancel my plan. I am now using a Linksys phone with SKYPE ( see link at bottom), along with Qwest DSL and it has workedout great (albeit a little slow sometimes). The great thing about the phone is that it is "dual mode". Meaning, I can select to make calls from either my landline or free calls with SKYPE. I telecommute for work and often have Netmeeting too and have great success with this setup. I hope this helps.
