Alert | Hmm this is an interesting question. For ease of use and number of games right now I believe the 360 is the way to go. ANd with the price drop it is defenitely the way tpo go.
If you have a tv that rates 1080p with component inputs I defenitely suggest sticking wqith the 360. if you MUST have the bluray technology get the ps3 but the games are short and sometimes disappointing.

Alert | | I think online play for PS3 is free, is that correct? I have also heard there is a lot of reliability issues with the 360.

Alert | | PS3 is free for the time being, but I don't think they intend to keep it that way. The 360 does have reliability issues, but if you get it with an extended warranty or from Costco/Sam's that's not a concern. | | Joined: Jul 2005

Alert | | I've had a 360 about a year now with no issues. I'm very happy with it. But I will be getting a PS3 also as I previously had a PS2 that no longer works. I miss my old games and Xbox games don't seem to be coming out fast enough to keep me entertained.

Alert | | If you want to go with a dying console get the PS3, it is on the fast track to nowhere. The 360 and the Wii have taken over gaming and all the game developers are following. There are almost no exclusive titles for the new playstation so why pay so much for something with so little developer support?

Alert | | i don't recommend the Wii system, but it's sales are off the chart; having said that, i think the game producers are going to focus on the Wii since there are so many systems out there. | | i don't like people who uses "signature" on their profile. TAKE IT OFF!!!

Alert | I would recommend looking at the current and future libraries of games for each system and use that to make your decision. If possible, demo each system (Wii included) before making your purchase. Also, consider who else in your household may be using the system. You may want to get the family more interested in gaming (ie. spouses).
You should also consider what it is you want from your system. Just games, media hub, to gather the family, HD movies, online gaming, LAN parties, etc.
If you DO decide to go with the 360, you're more than welcome to join in on the occasional Gears of War night (future Halo 3 night). We've gone on a bit of a hiatus during the summer, but will surely regroup.
Some other things to note: - 60gig PS3 price drop to $499. This version is no longer being produced, so this is a limited time offer. A 120gig system is taking over the $599 price slot. - MS extended their manufacturer's warranty to 3 years. Replacements/repairs at no cost to the consumer.

Alert | Jason, why do you say to purcahse from Costco or Sam's? I don't know about Sam's warranty but Costco is only 90 days now, otherwise they just extend the manufacturers warranty which means you still have to send the system to Microsoft.
Buy from Game Stop and spend the extra $50 on teh warranty, if you have a problem they swap the system over the counter and all you have to do is buy a new warranty. I get a new system every May for $50. | | Just the good ol' boys, Never meanin' no harm, Beats all you've ever saw, been in trouble with the law since the day they was born.

Alert | | You're both spending too much. When my 360 red-ringed, all it cost me was the price of gas for 2 trips to Best Buy. As long as the white 360 isn't discontinued, I can do this whenever I want!

Costco and Sam's are satisfaction guaranteed. Bring it back 1 year later or 2 years later or 3 years later, they'll take it back. Costco's 90 day return policy doesn't apply to game consoles.
I honestly don't know why Sam's offers that warranty when their policy is what it is. For large items I can see getting it, like a TV where you might not want to haul it back in. But a game console? Why waste the money? | | Joined: Jul 2005

Alert | From the horse's mouth:
"Merchandise: We guarantee your satisfaction on every product we sell with a full refund. Exceptions: Televisions, projectors, computers, cameras, camcorders, iPOD / MP3 players and cellular phones must be returned within 90 days of purchase for a refund."
Game consoles are not included on that list. This is further backed up by everything in the store that is covered by the 90-day policy has a 90-day return policy sticker on it. Game consoles do not have that sticker. | | Joined: Jul 2005

Alert | I have asked. Whoever you talked to was wrong. I have talked to store managers and they said computers are specifically notebooks and desktops. Further proof of this is the fact that when you pull up pages for notebooks and desktops on Costco.com it states in all caps that they have the 90 day return policy but there is no such warning for this on the Xbox bundle page at Costco.com.
