Alert | Service: Qwest DSL - 2.4Mbs down / 760kbs up Just kind of curious what people are getting around town. We have Qwest with their fastest package available here. I am going to try out Maricopa Broadband as they claim up to 9Mbs down. For me, download speeds are a big deal with the amount of work I do from home. But it would be interesting to know if other people in town have faster packages available from Qwest, or what they're getting with other service providers. By the way, you can easily check your speed at http://broadbandreports.com Then click on "Tools" (left hand column) and then "Speed Tests". There are some really good speed test tools on that site.

Alert | Switched over to Maricopa Broadband and after a rough start, it's testing at about 7.6Mbs down and 873Kbs up. Hey umtech . . . what part of town are you? Qwest told me 7Mb service is not available in Maricopa yet.

Isn't Maricopa Broadband having financial problems? They didn't pay their bill and the premium channels went dark for a week.

Alert | | I don't know, but their speed is really bad right now, can only get about 300 down. I'm on hold with tech. support as I type this, hold time estimated at 29 minutes. It will be a very short discussion. I'm giving them until 5pm tomorrow to resolve any problems and if it doesn't improve, then I will cancel. I never canceled Qwest. Still have everything. I can just switch over anytime I want.

Alert | Just tested my MBB connection with www.speakeasy.net/speedtest :
8.665 Mbps downstream - 0.975 Mbps upstream - Seattle 8.627 Mbps downstream - 0.969 Mbps upstream - San Francisco
Was told it was max 9Mbps down and max 1Mbps up - so these measurements are real close to the max!

It depends on which part of Maricopa you are in. We've got 7 Mbps with Qwest.

Qwest will only give us 3 Mbps for $36.99. What a joke.

Alert | Maricpa Broadband at 9:30PM on the http://speakeasy.com/speedtest website, Seattle Server Last Result:
Download Speed: 8476 kbps (1059.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 943 kbps (117.9 KB/sec transfer rate) Regarding Qwest, it appears their CO (Central Office, which is their main distribution hub) is located just west of 347 and Casa Grande off Edwards Ave. A quick google maps search tells me its about 10,500 feet from my home in Glenwilde. Distance is everything for DSL service. The farther away you are the less speed you can get. That is why I am curious what part of town you are in umtech (without specific address ofcourse). If you are as far or farther than I am, then I would expect I should be able to get 7Mbs service from Qwest as well. They tell me I only qualify for 3Mbs, but I'm not confident they are very good at calculating that, or that their customer service people have access to current information.
Ebay1, if you are farther away, say Northeast, perhaps in RED, that speed limitation would make sense, even if it is frustrating. I did speak to Qwest before hooking up Maricopa Broadband. They told me they are rolling out their new fiber network which will offer 10-20 Mbs, and eventually, we will have that service here. But they can't tell me if it will be here in 5 months or 5 years.
As far as Maricopa Broadband is concerned, I am now getting about 8.5 Mbs down and about 900 kbs up pretty reliably. But I have noticed those speeds get difficult to achieve during peak hours. Time will tell with them. I'm not cancelling my DSL service with Qwest just yet.

Alert | | Very interesting stuff. Qwest offers higher speed options to people who are farther away from the CO. Hmmm. Did they announce the 12 and 20 Mb packages for your area, or are you just inquiring about it?
