I am looking to go to Vonage but have been hearing things that it will not work with my Dish Network receivers.  Does anyone have any experience with this or have advice?  Thanks

Where is your internet connection from? If its from Dish, then no it won't work unless they have fixed the upload issue that is has. Satellite DL/UL in large packets that are not fluid, your receiver just has a delay so you do not get a picture disruption, but its not good for interactive dynamic actions like voice or MMO gaming.

It will work with DSL, but you would lose your package discount I think. You could make you land line into a basic line, and then just use Vonage for the features and LD calling. Plus this will give you some peice of mind since Vonage 911 will not work during Internet downtime, nor does it work the same way as a land line when getting a address for the EC.

Thanks for the great input  I think I am going to take my chances for a month to see if I like the service or not.  I am just looking to see what can save us a few bucks a month.  If it was my personal preference I would just dump the land line completely but I have some things that are tied into the number so its not easily to part with.

It doesn't really make sense to move to Vonage if you have Qwest DSL. The reason why is because DSL runs on a standard land line anyway that you have to pay for monthly. The point of VoIP is to rid yourself of the typical land line. A better solution is cable broadband for Internet (Orbitel) then run Vonage over that.

You should do some # crunching. Vonage offers much better service then a land line, and you can also access your messages via the internet and listen to them as well. You can travel with your phone, and have your same # transferred.

The only caveat is that you need to have a decent internet line. When I was with MBB I had horrible reception, now that I am with Orbitel I am fine. One of the big downfalls of cable ISPs is they can get slow during peak times depending on how many they have in your local hub.

VOIP is also great for a seperate Fax# line for the home.
