06/05/2008 5:29 PM Alert

Is anyone out there hooked up to these people.  I had a sales person out today and the deal sounds really good.  I am rural Maricopa still, south of town and no other service except satillite out here.  Hughes is horrible and I have the super highspeed through them, pay a rediculous amount, and am not happy at all.

On top of that, then I shell out each month to QWest.  Between the 2 I could save almost $70 a month in charges, super appealing, but if their service is not what is says it is, then I'd rather not mess with the changes.

I would love to hear from ANYONE with their service or knowledge about them. Thanks,

nancyj1922

Nancy, we're getting Transcend Broadband installed Tuesday morning. I figured a $70/ month savings between Qwest and Hughes Net Satellite. We get to keep our Qwest number also. If you haven't had it installed already, I will let you know what I think of it. If you have it now, please let me know. Thanks.

Hi Desert Gal,  I was real curious if you did get Transcend and if you are happy with the service.  We are set to get internet and phones on 8/14 and I'd feel a lot better if I knew someone that has service with them and is happy.  My phone is 424-9066 and I live in Hidden Valley also, south of Barnes Road.  If you could give me a call I would really appreciate it if you can beat the 8/14 install.  Thanks so much for responding. Nancy

I was with Maricopa Broadband and Quest for Internet and phone. I got a letter in the mail about Transcend Broadband so I set up a installation date with them. We agreed on July 24th to get the services installed. I called on the 23rd to confirm it and they said I was to be installed on the 31st. After some haggling I got them to pay for the installation costs (49.99) When the installer came out he jumped on the roof and came right back down. He said I do not have a line of sight to the towers where the signal comes from. And also said cause I live in a one story home I couldn't get a signal. Now Transcend had a great deal and I would have gone with them, but they need to get more towers in Maricopa so more people with one story homes can use their services.

Thanks for responding. I'll bring that up when they are out here. I live in Hidden Valley and they just built a 90 foot tower that is going to be expanded to 120 feet. I don't have all the double roofs to contend with, YET! I guess if it starts building that will be an issue. Sorry you had a bad time with them.

Nancy, I'm in Hidden Valley and just got Transcend connected up last week. It was down 3 or 4 times for about an hour, and down for several hours on Saturday. The tower in Hidden valley was having problems. I think they got the problem fixed as it's been working well since then. It's blazing fast with fairly low latency (~100-200ms depending on time of day.)

I'm also currently using Hughes. Transcend is cheaper, faster, and if you discount the first couple days I had the service. . . more reliable. Especially if you take into account you don't have a 24 hour download cap that cripples your connection everytime you need to download a program update or something.

I also have the phone service through Transcend. It works better than my cell phone service which is a bit spotty at times where I live.

The better internet + phone is cheaper than Hughes. Fortunately my 2-year contract with hughes to pay for the satellite dish was over in May, so I'm going to cancel. I'd definitely recommend getting Transcend over Hughes.

Chimney Duck,

I really appreciate your email.  I have Hughes right now and am so tired of their poor service and poorer service when I call about anything.  I have been using them forever because they were one of the only satellite choices out here.  I am VERY glad there is another option and hope that it works well for us.

I have heard of people trying some broadband phone through Vonage and having bad luck in this area, so I was real glad to hear phone service has been good. We are doing the phone service also.  They told me to keep my qwest until they release my number so I will have a few days to find out if the broadband works here.

I am also lucky my Hughes contract is up in a week!  :o) They won't be overlapping long!!!!

I'll post how it goes and what my service is like here.

Nancy

I was happy with Transcend for a little while, until they started having one outage after another. I cannot run a business with Transcend. I am SO happy that I kept Hughes Net as a backup. Transcend has already been down over two hours today, and this is now getting to be a common occurrence. The digital phone service through Transcend does me absolutely no good at all when the internet is down, and my cell phone is unreliable in an emergency out this far in Hidden Valley. I'm thinking seriously of getting rid of Transcend and getting my phone number placed back with Qwest. There is no savings at all when you have to retain a backup internet service like Hughes.

An extremely unhappy Transcend customer.

I forgot to say that it took well over 30 days to get my Qwest number transferred to Transcend.

Transcend called me this afternoon after the service had been down for over six hours. Around 6:30 this evening it was back up. Since the tower I use is on Papago Road, they are going to switch me to the new tower at Century and Amarillo Valley Road within the next two weeks. They told me that it is a priority to get everyone in this area switched to the new tower. It makes sense as it is only a couple miles away, and the tower on Papago is about 7 1/2 miles away.

Desert gal neighbor, good to talk to you. I hope that moving your signal to the new tower helps. Mine has only been working about half a day, but so far, so good! It hasn't been down yet. Maybe I need to let them put a tower in my yard to guarantee service! Let me know if the change of direction seems to make a difference.

Nancy, it was good to talk to you too! I'll let you know if the signal move helps. When they set mine up in June, the (temporary) Papago tower was the only one they had. You should wish for one of these towers in your yard. I understand that they pay thousands per year for the use of your land.

Linda, I would settle for free lifelong internet I think. :o) Well that depends what the tower looks like!

The next time the internet is down, I'm going to be writing a fairly lengthy nasty letter. My wife needs the internet connection, as she is going to school online. I don't mind 10 minutes here and there, but it was down all day.

I'm not sure I'm much closer to Amarillo & Century, but perhaps if they remove some load off the Papago tower, it will be up more.

Thought I'd put in an update. No internet outages that I've seen in the last two months. I'm a happy customer now.

Hi Chimney Duck, glad it got better for you. I have been hooked up for a few months now. My Transcend service is awesome! Super fast, and it has only been down 1 day for a few hours. Of course, I have no 2 story houses between here and the tower. We didn't have phone service out here. They said they were only getting about 65% of the signal and that isn't good enough for me. Even so, I've held on to my Hughes also, to make sure I was happy with Transcend (and until my contract was up) so next month, they are gonners.
