04/06/2008 7:14 AM Alert

I am using Vista Home Premium and Firefox.  Somehow, something seemed to have jacked my search engine box in the upper right corner of the browser.  Instead of Google, which I prefer, I ended up with Ask.com.  I was able to change search engines with the manage search engine tool, but Google isn't a choice.  This is only on one PC in my network.  The others work fine.  Any ideas?

Also, on Firefox and Explorere where can you manage whether or not your password stays in the box once you have remembered a web site?  I have been through security settings and had no luck.  It keeps the logon but not the password.  One one of my PC's it keeps neither.

Thanks!

1. Try this:

Click on the dropdown, click "Manage Search Engines" and then click the "Restore Defaults" button.

2. Try this:

For Firefox: Tools-->Options-->Security-->Check the chkbox that says "Remember Passwords for Sites".

For IE, Tools-->Internet Options-->Contents-->Autocomplete-->Check the chkbox that says "User names and passwords on forms".

Let me know.

I would suggest that you go into Control Panel > Programs and Features. Look for Ask.com, as well as any other suspect applications and uninstall them.
