03/09/2008 4:29 PM Alert

I am wondering if anyone has had issues with Norton Internet Security 2007?

About a week ago my auto protect turned off.  I tried turning it on, but it would not and gave me an error.  After the second error it said to uninstall and reinstall Norton.  I tried that but it will not reinstall.

I contacted Symantec and they have been trying to figure it out.  Of course that is like 5 different people and well over 15 hours of them working on my computer.  The last 2 people said they needed to research the error and get back to me.

I really need to get this fixed wheather they can help me or not.  I can not wait another week.

Any advice?

Thanks!

Never mind. Took my computer back to factory settings and started over.

I have one suggestion for you: dump Norton. It's a memory and resource hog and more trouble than it is worth. Windows comes with a decent firewall and anti-spyware package and free AV software will round it out nicely, without the sluggishness that Norton gives.

What's the best free AV software?  Do you have a link?

Thanks for the reference!  Do they provide updates to protect from new viruses?

I've heard that's pretty good. I use Avast. Updates itself automatically all the time.

I just went to download.com and AVG has 63 M downloads and Avast has 18 M downloads.

Cnet gave them both 5 starts.

The users gave Avast a 4.5 rating vs. AVG 4.0 rating.

I guess I will just try both!

Thanks for the help guys.

yes, they do.

keep in mind that no anti-virus or spyware removal tool is perfect, and your own surfing, downloading, etc, habits will have a major role in how clean of malware your computer remains.
