Does anyone know were I can find a "Royal" sub in the valley. For you that are wondering, a Royal is a sub made with grilled Italian sausage patties, cappicola, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, mayo and/or oil.

Every pizza place and sub shop in upstate NY has this item on the menu, can't seem to find it around here.

Have you tried Jason's Deli?
There is a little italian place on Ray and Mcqueen I think? It kind of mimics New York, I can't describe it, but I don't know if it is still there.

Try this link: http://www.azcentral.com/ent/dining/articles/0601bagelcafe01.html

the place you are talking about on ray and mcqueen is probably NY Bagel, and I don't think it is there anymore. However, Rosati's is in the same shopping center and has way better food. It is actually Chicago style pizza, and they do have something called an Italian Grinder. It has capicola, salami, a few different italian cheeses, lettuce, tomato, peppercini, onion and oil, with italian dressing on the side. it is really really good, way better than any subway sub I've had lol.

Yes that was the name! Not there anymore? I have only had it once, but I thought the food was really good.

I agree that those places are way better than any Subway...lol

Ok, I have to ask.. Where in Upstate NY? I spent 30+years up there, and I didn't know what a 'royal' was...

Upstate NY is North of NYC. I actually come from the "Western" part of Upstate NY.

It is a Grinder in Chicago. Don't know why those wacky NY people call it a Royal, unless it has to do with the taste, which is awesome, lol.

I don't know of any place that does it with the Italian Sausage Partties but here are some of the best Italian places in the Valley-

Uncle Sams- http://phoenix.citysearch.com/review/1647568
10520 N 90th St Scottsdale (Shea Blvd and 101)
3217 E Shea Blvd (Shea and the 51)

Oregano's - http://www.oreganos.com/menu.htm
Multiple Locations

DeFalco Italian Deli and Grocery- http://defalcosdeli.com/
2334 N Scottsdale Rd. Scottsdale

There is another one in the NE corner of Scottsdale and Shea (little deli and grocery bur can't recall the name).

Ok, I haven't tried one at any of those other places, but trust me, Rosati's, like most of their other quality food, has an excellent Grinder. I was a little leery of it at first since I don't like salami, didn't know what capicolla was, etc. But everything just mixes together well.

DeFalco's makes great subs and other food items. I used to work around the corner from there. We made sure to call the order in ahead of time though as there is always a wait.
