Just thought that I would spread the word about this great lil restaurant/bar I went to in Chandler on Saturday with my mom called The Detour. It was very very yummy I had a classic club sandwich and and some jalepeno poppers and to be completely honest it was all some of the best food I have had in a long time. The service was awesome and come to find out the owners of the restaurant are fellow Maricopians and as mentioned in the Communicator they tryed to open a place here in town but were denied by the city (of course heaven forbid we have a place with some sort entertainment in town that would make things way to easy for everybody) but Chandler is the best they could do and I highly recommend tryin it out. The owner Eric made me feel like one of the regulars and the least I can do to help them out is spread the word So when ever your in Chandler take a detour to the Detour you wont be disappointed I sure wasnt

Wow a chicken club and some poppers. You have a very refined taste to claim this is the best food you had in a long time. I think you are somehow related to this restaurant and are skirting the TOU.

How did the city prevent them from opening in Maricopa? I would really like to know for what reasons they were denied.

Wow, the nasty buggers in this town surely never stop. Ironically I've been reading these forums for quite a long time... and I purposely DIDN'T post anything to toot our own horn for this exact reason.

For the record, I am the owner, Eric Amorossi.... and I honestly can't tell you how nice and flattering the original comments were to see. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I've been a part of this community for years, and as always, there was a bit of exaggeration in the poster's comments.

The city of Maricopa didn't "stop" us from building/buying here... they just made it ridiculously difficult. Feel free to read the article in the Communicator for most of the reasons why.

(I can use this as an opportunity to make a correction to the article!! The only error I really noticed was a mention of rental amounts in Maricopa. The editor mentioned that I thought "4700 per month for 3300 sq. ft. was too expensive"... this was a big confusion. We're paying close to that in Chandler. That was not "too expensive"... if we could have found anything CLOSE to that in Maricopa, we'd be here... rather than forcing my family and my partners to ALL drive 20 miles each and every day, sometimes 3-4 times a day. NO... the rental rates in Maricopa are ABSURD. We're talking quotes of $36 per square foot!!! In Maricopa!!! For the same 3300 sq. feet we have in Chandler, we'd be paying over $11,880 every single month!)

If you actually bothered to come and see the place for yourself, you'd see where a small, neighborhood restaurant and bar. We wonder why restaurants and businesses in our community are closing all over the place? The costs, the processes you have to FIGHT through to get started, the permits, hassles, headaches... and THEN, as if it all weren't bad enough, we get posters like Desert Dawg.

The negative, bashing, self-absorbed posters who never think to put themselves in the shoes of a struggling business owner. Worse in this case, because you've never even been to our place! How is that even fair?

To trash someone on top of that for saying their "taste" is somehow beneath you because they ordered a sandwich and fried jalapeno poppers? Why can't that still be the best food you've had?

It doesn't even matter... an argument isn't what I'm after. I just wish we had the kind of community that would support any and ALL businesses, any and all people before jumping to conclusions, and even after.

I'm so sick of reading this forum bashing Ramsey's, or any other restaurant after one bad visit, or one mediocre bit of service.... and I LOVE the folks who jump in to defend those same businesses.

So yes, I'm selfishly jumping in to protect a poster who actually took the time to pay me a compliment. Judge me or my business as harshly as you like... but please don't make my patrons feel BAD about themselves for taking the time to do something nice.

I know that several other Maricopans have come to visit us recently based on my friendships in the community, the nice article in the Communicator, and at least 2 new great folks from Kyrene Bowl mentioned this post.

THANK YOU Faith14. We owe you a lot. I hope tons of my neighbors and fellow Maricopans will ALL come in some time... and let us show you ourselves what kind of business we run, what kind of food we serve, etc.

We're proud of what we've done so far... and yes, we hope and pray that we can succeed enough to build a second location in Maricopa. A bigger, better, location. We're doing the best with what we have, trying to live a dream that we have worked for over 13 months to create. I wish we were here. Heck, if we'd known about Ramsey's sooner, I'd have made a cash offer on the spot before they ever closed... but we do what we can.

Thanks again Faith. and Dawg, come see us before you bash us, eh? We're not perfect, we're learning a lot, and I'm sure we'll get a bunch wrong. But I can promise one thing... I'm there almost every single night after 5pm. If you come in while I'm there and ANYTHING isn't up to par, for ANY reason... I'll pay your bill myself, and more importantly, I'll do everything I can to make sure you have a great time, and love the food as much as I do.

Hey Eric, I love that you took the time to post your reply. Much respect to you for stepping out on a limb and living your dream. Best of luck to you and your business. I know exactly where your place is and will make it a point to stop by for a drink and food next time I'm in the area.
