Jason, The breakdown of profit on a fountain soda was the whole point of my first post. Our restaurants are struggling to survive. One suggestion in another thread a few weeks ago was to raise beer prices $1. My suggestion was for ALL the restaurants to unite and return to the time when free refills were not expected. It's a way of increasing proft without raising prices.

Personally, I think it's in the restaurants best interest all around to not give free refills. Excessive amounts of sodas are not healthy. In todays' world it would not surprize me at all to see a headline where someone sues a restaurant for free refills because they got sclerosis of the liver from being a coke-a-holic. In my server experience, diet coke drinkers are insatiable.</div>

That's like gas stations not selling smokes for the smokers. Not REALISTIC.

Sorry, drummer, I don't get your analogy. Does the gas station refill your pack of smokes for free when it's empty? or your gas tank?

LOL... that's what I thought too.. he he he

Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem.

That's collusion. And I think there would be some issues there with restraint of free trade.

If I knew I would haft to pay for a refill I would most likely not even order a drink. Just have water, then they would loose out on the money all together. To me it does not make good business. Restaurants should do fine just make sure you have the best service and quality food and people will keep coming. Trying to save .10 on a drink refill bad idea.

I know that I dont even pay attention to the price of a drink when I am eating, I am always going to have a drink, so just raise the prices on a single drink to what you feel you need to make off of me. Plus that way your customers dont flock away to the chains that will eat the supposed cost --(btw I worked in many food places growing up, the softdrinks were where the profit comes from, they were neve considered an expense)-- the food was just there to get you to buy a drink. Pepsi owns Taco Bell, and KFC, both offering some of the cheapest foods so that Pepsi Cola has a venue to sell its soft drinks, its a cash machine for them. You should speak to your vendor on how to maximize your profits on that type of sale.

We went to Arena this past weekend, and there was the world series game on, so we ordered water. The server looked less than thrilled with us when we didn't order a drink (I wasn't going to risk spending half the bill in refills). My guess is that they are making plenty of profit off the horrible, over priced food. I don't think the extra revenue from refills is going to change anything.

If you can't spot the loser, it might be you

We will never return to The Arena. Service is crappy, food is horrible, boss is too busy drinking and flirting w/ his on-duty waitresses to care about his customers. The sad thing is that if some of these businesses here like The Arena don't shape up, when the other businesses move in who do treat us right, the crappy Arena and the others will be forced out b/c they didn't provide quality service and food. Good riddance.

I am sorry that you have had bad experiences. The boss was not flirting and the waitresses were not working. He had worked 15 hours and sat down to have a drink after his shift with members of our staff. Most Fridays, you will see me doing the same thing. That usually happens about 9:30. The closing manager dropped the ball and we will deal with that. Again, I am sorry about your experience. It would be helpful if you would call and express your concerns to us directly so we can rectify the situation. Things that are written in anger can be hurtful and harmful if they are inaccurate.

Oh, I thought it was just easier to come on this website and spew a bunch of nonsense. I thought it was encouraged, since the owners of the site are mad that Arena's won't advertise with them.

I can't stand the level of sound in there. It's so loud, we can't hear one another. It also bothers me that the TVs often show risque videos. I have kids and if I wanted them to see that crap, I'd show it at home.

So we rarely, rarely go there. And yes, I've asked for the sound to be turned down and we've put money in the machine to play songs that we enjoy. But there's only so much that you can do before you lose interest.

Your kids destroyed a doctor's office. I don't really think a Fergie video can do too much more damage.

i try to stay silent on the topic of the arena, because it is so near and dear to my heart. in 25 years working in restaurants across the country, the staff at the arena is the best and the most family-like i have ever experienced. but i felt i had to comment on someone saying the manager was flirting rather than doing his job. first, i would bet money on the fact that he was not flirting, we are like a FAMIULY there, not a soap opera. and second, he is one of the hardest working men i have ever had the priveledge to work with. yes, he will sit and have a beer AFTER his shift, does anyone really begrudge him that? i have also seen him busting hump in the kitchen at all hours of the day and night. he and i race to see who can bus tables first. he is an all around good guy, and i guarantee, if he had known there was a problem, if the customer had asked to speak to someone in charge, i know he would have addressed it appropriately, whether his shift was over or not.

if you're reading this forum: BIG DADDY, YOUR STAFF ADORES YOU! and if you're not, i'm sure chelby will tell ya about it.

Demonica, that must really be frustrating to have someone who you care about lied about like that. Good for you for standing up for him.

Hey, REAL doctor's offices are resilient. Only pansy offices break so easily.

Now go roll in your catnip. I hope the calming voices arrive soon.

REAL doctors offices would have made a claim for that stuff through your insurance. Which would have been denied. Which you couldn't have paid. Which you would be sued over.

If you took some responsibilty for your actions, that would give you a feeling of being in control of your life. Maybe a sense of hope for the future. That would really go a long way in easing your chronic depression.
