how much do you spend on them? There is 6 of us and we typically spend 175-200 every two weeks. My husband is a major tight wad and thinks that i'm spending too much. I try to buy alot of generic things. Am i spending too much?

I honestly don't think that you are spending that much. We have 6 in our home as well and we spend about $500 a month. We try to do our shopping between Fry's and Walmart and found that both stores have good sales. I also try to buy generic brands to save some money but sometimes I find that the generic version tastes a bit weird.

We shop at the same places also. Well i would prefer to do all of the shopping at Wal-Mart, but my husband HATES for me to go there. He thinks its "dangerous" to let a woman loose in that place. Meaning we love to shop and not only for groceries.

We've also been going to Big Lots to get snacks and household supplies. Such as cleaning supplies, shampoo and etc.

Tell your husband he should give you a pat on the back...6 mouths to feed @ less then $100 a week is indeed "frugal shopping"....he should be proud of your efforts and thankful!

I think your doing a great job shopping for 6 with the amount of money you are spending.

The wife shops... So I don't know.

If I were to shop, I would probably hear " Why did you buy that?"

Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem.

I think it's pretty good.

We are a family of 5 with 1 in diapers and we spend roughly $200-250 per month. Pantry is very well stocked, and I have some serious eaters at my house.

So I have lunches and snacks and diapers!! Hubby thinks I spend too much SO He will now be doing the shopping AND cooking -since he said he can cook on 75 a week NOT too mention he is wanting me to let the houskeeeper go SO he will now be doing the housework too!! I think I am getting the better deal NO cleaning, cooking OR grocery shopping!!! Its good to be QUEEN!!!

btw BEFORE I get the mens tighty whities in a bunch....I have a housekeeper due to a back injury that evertime I vacuum, mop or clean the shower it goes out (for week at a time) and hubby ends up having to care for ME and the kids!!!

I think you are doing great if you spend only 175-200 every two weeks... I spend at least that and it's just me, my hubby and our 2 year old! And that's only food - I buy all diapers, soap, etc at Target.

Of course, my husband doesn't like generic brands and I like to wander the home section at Frys...

I spend an average of $350 a month. family of 4 (and one on the way), one in diapers, also the bachleor neighbor "borrows food/milk" frequently. I do use a popular coupon program, and watch sales. I refuse to go to walmart. I rarely use costco, unless what i can get there is a better deal than what I can get with coupons at the 'regular' store.

YZRacer-I was thinking about trying one of the coupon programs. How much does yours cost and how does it work? I heard of one and this friend swears it is worth it but she is usually going a couple of stores for items. Does it work on Formula and diapers etc? Thanks.

We spend about $100/week. There are usually (I have as step daughter) only 2 of us and a toddler. I do buy mostly organic/all natural though so that is probably why it's so high.

I think for a family that large you are on track.

It varies. I don't shop weekly except for things like drinks and bread. Altogether I spend $800 to $1200 per month and we eat out a few times per week. In my defense, I'm home all day with four school age boys and they have big eyes and hollow legs.

Well, I'm a first time home buyer and I do tell my wife to watch her spending too. Right now, we don't know what's our expenses going to be like so I like to take caution. We don't live check to check, but, for now, we have to watch our spending and make sure we budget correctly.
