Alert | | Went to Fry's this morning from the rear entrance by the Villages and they got tagged on the side facing the open lot. That's what you want to see in a ciy that thinks it is going to be the next big thing. Little gang bangers running around tagging every piece of wall they can see.

Alert | | taggers should have a finger removed each time they get caught...starting with their index finger....now only if we could catch a few....plus they would be made to clean up their "art" work | | *formerly known as inyrfce2* Senior Member Posts: 797 Joined: Dec 2006

Alert | Just an FYi I know a lot of taggers in former lives and NONE of them were gang bangers. Repressed artists maybe, but not all taggers are in a gang.
They do have a "crew" but they are typically non violent. They speak through their art.

Alert | Thta's true.... I have known many in my "younger" days and none of them were bangers. You can tell the "gangster" tagging if a street or gang name is present.... | | Ppppppbbbbbbssssssssssttttttttt!

Alert | grafitti art can be quite amazing and admirable....when it isn't on the side of a building that didn't want art applied to it.
i agree most people that i know/knew that ever tagged anything had no gang affiliation. just plain idiots that had nothing better to do.
i think all the grafitti around the grand canyon and painted desert should be removed. i don't care how old it is.
here are some examples of artists, some misdirected and some aren't. there is no denying the amount of talent needed to complete some of these.

Alert | What is on Fry's is not "Art" it is gang related. What gang I don't know since how can you keep up with all the new ones. Art belongs on a wall in your home or a museum.

Alert | | And how do you know its "gang" related? Like I said Taggers have Crews which can be looked at as gangs, but typically non violent.

Alert | Then by all means please explain.
I am not looking for a fight, just to know what identifies it as such. AND typically law enforcement officers have a closed mindwhen it comes to taggers anyways so its understandable you dont believe any of it has any artistic value.
I do however have the utmost respect for our peace officers and in no way mean that statement to be derogatory.
Destruction of property is by no means recomended or even supported all i am saying is that SOME of it can be extremely artistic and with guidance the taggers can actually make a fairly good living doing what they love LEGALLY.

Alert | I am not looking for a fight either you just have to look at the tagging and what in resembles it is not art, it resembles more along the lines of a gang tag. Here is a website
http://www.gangwatchers.org/gang-graffiti.html
Look at the site and then look at the wall and decide what you think it is.

i remember being in high school in the 90's. a local police officer was in for a presentation and started telling us how all kids with cell phones or pagers are drug dealers. everyone i knew had a pager or phone, most of ours were paid for by our parents. the only person without a phone/pager was selling pot, go figure.
i agree a lot of LEO's having a closed mind. I guess when you deal with criminals all day you tend to get a bit hardened. | | Follow your bliss. Happiness is a conscious decision

Alert | | I am not an LEO. Stick your head in the sand. Having a pager or a cell phone is different.
