Alert | | no I said the same thing....what about proper temperature, and not the proper temp to harbor bacteria. (if I wasn't a lab tech, I wouldn't know any better!) | | LVMADONNA Senior Member Posts: 1974 Joined: Jan 2006

Alert | | I saw the tamalemobile, and wondered the same thing. what was amazing is that I saw 3 sheriff/MPD cars drive past and no one stopped to check him out! He couldn't possibly have gotten a vendor/food license to sell out of the trunk of his car!?!

Alert | | I used to order tamales from a truck that had a license. They were great! The one I saw on the side of the road didn't look like they had a license to sell food. Stay away from that!

Alert | It's obvious that most of you haven't traveled to 3rd world countries or even a few hours to Mexico. Those people are happy just to have some food available from anywhere car, cart, backpack...... I'll take a guess and say that there must be some buying from him other wise he wouldn't be there day after day in 100+ heat..

Yes, that is true. But not anybody that logs on here. Their customers are probably just figuring out how to use a push button phone.
And yes I have travelled in 3rd world countries....but....oh never mind. LMAO

Alert | | I don't know... I've gotten some of the best tamales out of similar places. Anthony Bourdain and Andrew Zimmer were talking about this recently on a show they did together- saying that being brave can bring you some of the biggest food rewards. I've never had food poisioning, either. *knock on wood* If it's green/smells bad, don't eat it. Otherwise I just hope all the seasonings kill off the bacteria, haha. (yes, I realize that's a really stupid theory and I'm fully aware of the hazards!) | | As Bertrand Russell once said, "The only thing that will redeem mankind is cooperation." I think we can all appreciate the relevance of that now.

Alert | | We tried them, they weren't ok, not the best we've had but pretty good anyway. They were quite hot, had to leave them cool off a little to eat them. Haven't seen them around lately. I suppose a food handlers lic. would be nice, however as we all know that doesn't guarentee a clean kitchen or food that won't make you sick. If anyone has ever traveled through the local reservations ( phoenix for that matter) they may find a variety of native foods served out of coolers. Not really that unusual just need to open up to how other cultures are and if you don't want to particapate no one is forcing you, but keeping an open mind and realizing people are different and accept that may take some of the stress out of your life. Just a thought!!!!

Alert | Why should one vendor be excepted from the licenses and requirements and others must follow them? Is it fair to, say Taco Del Mar, or Tacos and More, for a drive by tamalemobile to sell without regard to food safety, licensing?
We are not in Mexico, and many local people have risked their livelihoods to open businesses complete with all the regulatory charges that come with it. The food may be good, but who is accountable if the temp of his food is not safe?
I think the city needs to take a stand with the ordinances and licensing and be consistent.
Why, let's all have a parking lot Trunk of the car Food Vendor day! I'll bring the bundts, someone here said they make some mean taco's, the Nag can bring cookies. . . .
Oh yeah, there was a Craft Swap day that turned into a licensing quagmire. the crafty Girls had to do it, why not TamaleMan?
