Alert | did anyone else get an email talking about people stealing at the coop? how wrong is that! crazy to think that someone or someones would have to go and mess things up. now im wondering if when we go, if they'll literally watch over everyone like a hawk because someone had to do something stupid.
just one thing though...what is it with parents who bring their kids there and then let them touch all the baskets? we were getting our basket and some little girl was putting her hand into all the baskets, squeezing stuff. the mom only said, "stop" and kept filling her own basket. granted, i don't have kids....but, if you don't have kids that either will listen or know better, then don't bring them! ok...my vent is done. =)

Alert | I saw the letter and I think its disgusting that someone would steal from the co - op.
here is a copy of the letter I got in case anyone hadn't gotten it:
To Participants of the Bountiful Baskets Food Co-op, Maricopa site:
We report with great sadness that we have an honesty issue at our site.
Over the past several co-op cycles, we have come up short on baskets and/or other items (oil, vinegar, etc.). It was brought to our attention this Saturday that a volunteer saw at least two people take produce out of other people's baskets and add it to their own. This behavior is absolutely unacceptable and will not be tolerated in our co-op. This is stealing from *you* and your neighbors. We are appalled by the actions of a few and must ensure that there are no repeats.
If anyone is caught stealing food, that person will be banned from participating in Bountiful Baskets Food Co-op and will be reported to the police.
Please review the following Golden Rules of our co-op.
-Each person is allowed the contents of 1 blue basket and 1 white basket per Produce Basket order.
-'Extra' produce (i.e., produce that does not distribute evenly) is distributed on a participant-pick basis at the end of distribution; quantity is based on the Site Managers' best guess for maximum distribution.
-Volunteers have first choice on 'extras' and often are allowed a few more 'extras' than non-Volunteers. Volunteers also check out first.
-All 'extras' that are not selected, as well as all baskets that are not picked up in a timely manner, are donated to the local fire station. We DO NOT donate to individual, social, or religious causes.
Our volunteers and most of our participants are awesome! We are volunteers, too, and we work hard to run this co-op. However, if this problem continues we will close this co-op site.
Another thing that we need to address is the Forgotten Basket issue. If you are unable to pick up your basket within the designated site pickup time on Saturday morning, PLEASE have someone pick it up for you. When 3 or 4 people do not pick up their baskets, it is very difficult for the Site Managers to take all baskets, plus their own, home.
Sincerely, Kirstin Huff and AJ Atkins

Alert | Well at least they are willing to prosecute. Stupid people! I haven't even signed up yet as we've been extremely busy, but to think it could be gone before others even hear of this wonderful opportunity. I would volunteer to be the produce police. I'll even bring my own handcuffs to hold them while we wait for the police.
charann ~ I agree with you about parents controlling their kids, 110% and I have kids! I can't stand when parents let their kids get into things that are not theirs and then do nothing about it. Saying no and not acting is doing nothing!
ok rant over. | | | |

Alert | We are already getting a lot more for our money than if we bought the same items at the grocery store. To take items that do not belong to them is inexcuseable. They are cheating all of us.

Can I borrow your handcuffs?
I think that if a parents child is doing that then they should take the basket the child has been in. | | You must be the change you want to see in the world ~Gandhi

Alert | | ...Have not had a chance to place an order at the new site yet, but I would like to. I hope whoever was stealing produce, reads this & realizes this type of behavior will not be tolerated! Please don't ruin it for the rest of us. This is a great program, and I don't want to see it shut down.

Alert | | I have seen people "swap" items and I don't think this is allowed either! We are so thankful to get the basket for such a great price, I can't imagine people trying to get even more by stealing or swapping. | | Formerly known as *werunohu* !!

From what I understand swapping isn't allowed either unless the person who owns the basket is doing the swapping. A really nice lady I met there gave me her pears because she and her family don't eat them. Heck I gave the lychee's away that i had in mine lol. | | You must be the change you want to see in the world ~Gandhi
