Alert | I have given great thought to posting this and its not being spiteful but I have to spread the word about these restaurants so people know what they are getting into when they go and eat at these places. I do know someone who worked AND quit at both of these places because he couldnt stand it - and when he told me what its like in the kitchen - I wouldnt go back to these places if my life depended on it. To sum it up, unless you like eating salad that was cut up using the same knife that cut raw chicken, unless you follow the 10 second rule on food dropped on the floor, unless you enjoy people cooking your food that dont have their food handlers card OR proper kitchen training/certification, yea dont go there.

Alert | | If your that worried about stuff like that then you should probably never ever eat out...99.9 percent of people that have worked in any restaurant from macdonalds to ruth chris can tell you a story like that. It is what it is. Until teakwoods makes me sick i will keep eating there. Im not worried about arena since they suck anyways.

Alert | I agee with jeeptj02, if Teakwoods passes health inspections, and I don't get sick, well, I figure to keep going to Teakwoods for music and beer on Wednesday night. If your choice is to stay away, that'll be one less seat taken in the crowded bar!
BTW, disgruntled former employees sure can talk a lot of trash about their former employers.

Alert | Wow, it is amazing how many people must have immune, lead stomachs then because how many people do you know have gotten sick from eating there? I do not know of a single person. I did, however, get sick after eating chicken from Cheesecake Factory in Chandler. Maybe you should add that to the list of places never to go. Oh my sister once got sick off a Burger King burger...hmm, don't go there either. Stop taking advice from disgruntled former employees and try it out for yourself. Otherwise, I advise you not to go out to eat ever.
Btw, by not going to Arena you are missing out on the cajun Whiskey River pasta, as well as the beef enchiladas. Boy do I feel sorry for you. By not going to Teakwoods...you are missing out on some pretty good philly cheesesteaks. I would rethink your decision for these foods alone.

Alert | | I dont care if its McDonalds or Red Lobster the whole thought of food being dropped on the ground is just sick to me. And this "disgruntled" employee happens to be my cousin, who is very sanitary and cautious even if its cooking at the family BBQ. I've seen how he "practices what he preaches" and quite frankly yes I dont go out because of that. I just dont take the chances. Just thought I would spread the word that all. I've eaten there once and did not get sick but I guess the lack of action from the owners is just bothersome. I commend my cousin for refusing to work at a place where management takes no action to correct that. By the way, Teakwoods has not been thru a random health inspection yet.

Alert | thanks for posting that link after doing some research i found a complaint against teakwoods for the same things MissD was saying were going on however they could not confirm this was happing when they did there inspection which would have been a surprise inspection since this was a complaint. I wonder if a disgruntled employee made this claim? someones cousin perhaps? hmmmm i wonder!!! to bad i know one of the owners of teakwoods and she would never let anything like that happen at any of the teakwoods. she prides herself on her resturants and is always keeping up with whats going on there especially in the kitchen.

Alert | I have no doubt that what the OP said is possible. However, Teakwoods is run so efficiently and with the employees being very professional and mature, that these being common occurrences doesn't seem likely.

Alert | | Uh, no, I'm from San Diego (so I KNOW cheesesteaks; j/k). I never said they were authentic cheesesteaks! Just good. I am sure the real Philly cheeseteak is better. Anyway, I only said that because I am not a huge fan of their food, but had to think of something I've had there that I liked. Arena has a good one, too, btw, but yeah, I am sure it's not authentic or anything, just good.

Alert | Forefathers in Tempe makes a decent cheesesteak. There's also a place in downtown Phoenix. And Uncle Sam's is very good. I'm from South Philly, the home of the cheesesteak, and wish I could open a restaurant to spread the joy | | Poster formerly known as Sassafrass.

If you ever decide to go forward, save me a spot for the grand opening. I'm heading to NJ first part of next month and I'm flying into Philly. I ALWAYS find my way to an authentic cheesesteak. But, please, BelowAverageJeff, by all means let me know if it is ONLY really a cheesesteak if I get it at a certain restaurant in Philly. I wouldn't want to claim that what I get is good unless I can be pretentious too.

Alert | Nawor, can I give you a heads up? Go to The Oregon Diner at 4th and Oregon. It's a major street, not far from the airport, and easy to find. Order a French Onion Soup. Then tell me how it changes your life. My husband grew up in the Northeast and had never had anything like it.
The cheese, provolone of course, runs down the side of the bowl and can be scooped up and stretched and folded to be shoved in your mouth. The crouton is buttery and firm. It's the most comforting that food can aspire to be.
As for a kickass steak, Gooey Looies in the Pennsport Mall makes one that puts Geno's and Pat's to shame. There is more meat on their sammies than you could buy for the same amount of money in a deli.
I miss Philly. We returned last year for the first time in a decade and my kids are still talking about the food. | | Poster formerly known as Sassafrass.

Alert | Sorry for jacking the thread everyone, but this is IMPORTANT STUFF!!! I wish I had the time to venture out and take up your recommendations. Unfortunately, this year, I'm going to have to jump off a plane go straight to my rental car and then down the highway to Wildwood to make my first meeting. My return trip doesn't have any slack time in it either. Next summer the wife and I are planning a two week car trip up the eastern seaboard. I will keep your suggestion filed away and make sure to put it on my triptick. It looks like this trip, I will have to settle for a NJ cheesesteak.
Thanks Boymaker!!!

Alert | "Floor spice makes everything nice"
I worked in kitchens for a few years, mostly nicer places with clean & conscientious co-workers like myself. Even still, I've seen some stuff...
I rarely eat out.

Alert | | I just keep thinking... it's not as if there aren't unscrupulous ppl that handle our store bought food before we take it home to cook it. There's nastiness everywhere, it's pretty unavoidable. Not eating out doesn't save us from it. | | Wisdom comes with age, but sometimes age comes alone.
