07/20/2008 10:38 PM Alert

On 7/20/08 at 8:30 in the evening we had a problem at the Sonic in Maricopa AZ. We asked to speak with the manager (who would not come out to talk to us, the guests). While questioning the tall young black man who came out FOR the manager about an item, he became nasty and refused to give us his name! Then this young man yanked off his name tag so he could not be identified.  He said it was “no sweat” if we complained to the corporate office, and it “wouldn't hurt him” if we reported it!

DO NOT EAT THERE!!!   WARNING RUDE EMPLOYEES AND POOR, VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!  Put a dent in their business and demand they have POLITE EMPLOYEES!!!   We do not need to tolerate such behavior and verbal abuse nor spend our hard earned money there!

I ate there once when they first opened. I complained about a hair in my ice cream sundae. When I approached the manager he told me to "take it out, it's probably yours any way" What was more disgusting, it was curly black. I told him I wanted my $ back and after some conversation he finally did. I havent been back since. Oh, and I hate those stupid commercials

I actually like the commercials, especially during the NCAA basketball finals. I love going to Sonic, just not the Maricopa one. The first time we went and it took over 10 minutes for our order of only a large coke and a large slush. We gave them a 2nd chance, and the same thing happened. No one was friendly, the bun of the chicken sandwich was anything but fresh, and the order took a very long time. We are done with Maricopa Sonic.

Welfare's purpose should be to eliminate, as far as possible, the need for its own existence.

strange. This weekend was the first time I ever went to a sonic. I thought it was very hokey to pick up a phone to order from the table. the service was terrific, the guy that took care of us actually seemed to enjoy his job. The food on the other hand was awful. It was fresh and hot, but still nasty.

I'll stick to jack in the box when i have the hankering for grease on a bun....

Why must you point out that he was black?

For a good description I'm sure. Would you have asked why if the OP had said a tall, young, hispanic man, or a tall young white man? Just curious what it matters that he described the server accurately?

Maybe just to publicly identify the kid? Why is everyone so quick to assume that a descriptor must be racist??

The only problem I see with the OP is that they did not describe the problem that resulted in the confrontation. I've been less than impressed the times we've patronized this Sonic, but without any details, it's hard to objectively evaluate whether the OP is being reasonable or just spiteful. Maybe Sonic has some problems, but if the owner or corporate are unaware, they don't even have the opportunity to correct the issues. I, personally, would have opted to send corporate a respectful FYI note rather than issue a public cry for boycott.

I completely agree about this Sonic. We stopped going there quite some time ago because of the awful customer service. They have always been willing to compensate us, but it became not worth the trouble.

To Marni:

It was mearly a descriptive phrase like saying" the young blond girl".

For your information I'm Bi-racial.

The question is now, why are you so quick to assume that I thought the OP was a racist. Never said that nor was it implied. It was just a question.

would you be asking these questions if the description was of a white, Hispanic, Indian, Arab or asian person?

Back to the issue, Sonic Customer service stinks, and I for one will eat burgers elsewhere.

Marni:

Then please say so in the public forum. You were too quick to imply something untrue.

I for one, am tired of a descriptive term being called RACIST!

It was mearly a descriptive phrase like saying" the young blond white girl". Blond hair is not exclusive to "white"
people. I was describing the rude young man!

Once again, for your information I'm Bi-racial and I'm getting sick and tired of everything being linked to race.
If Obama looses, maybe, just MAYBE its because hes not as qualified as his opponent, NOT BECAUSE HE"S BLACK!

I personally believe the ones who see racism in everything and comment are the racists!!

Slinky, out of curiosity and subsequent employee rudeness aside, what did Sonic do that required attention (unfortunately lacking) of the management? Not picking. Just curious.

we don't go to sonic anymore either. we had an issue with a very rude order-taking person and the manager (who looked all of 17 himself) told me that his employees were top notch and i was the problem.

This is funny.
Quick note - We like Sonic.
BUT
Everytime we go there they are out of something!
Few examples:
Ordered the coffee drinks - out of whip cream.
Wanted onion rings on more than one occasion - NOPE, out of them.
One night they were out of MAYO, something their burgers are known for. On that same night they were out of BACON, so, we got discounted patty's on buns, pretty much. And free coneys!

If you are unhappy - Call the corporate number and lodge a complaint. We do. They will mail you a postcard for something free. The manager also gets a email. He called us personally once at home after our corporate complaint to let us know he would refund our money or replace the whole order, correctly, next time. Although, I think when we went back they were still out of onion rings. ha ha

We've haven't gone back for FOOD since they were out of Mayo and bacon, but still get their slushy drink mixes..... Great on these hot days!
