Was just curious about this, I usually see him set up at 347 and Riggs on the way home from work.  Anyone try it?  Does the shrimp seem fresh?  Think it's safe?

I eat the shimp when I'm in Rocky Point and it is great. As for getting it off of the side of the road, I have no idea. It's probley as safe as anything else you can buy on the side of the road. Just check to make sure they kept it iced.

Are you ready for some football?

He has a variety of shrimp and lobster. All are frozen and kept in a freezer he has in the van. We purchased shrimp and one bag of frozen tails. The tails we bought were African lobster tails. Grilled them and they were very tasty. No fishy odor at all when we defrosted them. Haven't tried shrimp yet, but they are a good size.

He will only be there till July, then he heads back East for the summer. He is a New Yorker.

We bought a whole bunch of seafood from him yesterday. He had Australian lobster tails (small but very tender & tasy - we had them tonight!!), Maine lobster tails (he was selling them for $11 when the same size would go for over $20 in the grocery store!), shrimp in all sizes (we bought 2 bags of the colossal but haven't cooked them yet), and HUGE scallops. He told us that he gets all of his seafood from a distributor in town. If the rest of the seafood we bought was as tasty as those lobster tails tonight, I might have to buy out his whole stock next time

Adversity does not build character - it reveals it.

Finally stopped by on the way home from work tonight. Picked up two bags of the colossal which were one bag for $12 or two for $20. Also picked up a bag of jumbo scallops, priced the same as the shrimp. They look great. Everything is frozen.  He said he would be there until July 4th, and then that's it for the season, until next year. Unfortunately, we are leaving town, so I won't be able to try them until we get back.

KSUWildcat-
Did you see the tornado damage to K-State this week? Several friends called from home yesterday adn were ok, but it sounds like areas of Manhattan were hit hard.

Yes! I saw it on the news yesterday morning, but because they mixed the coverage with what happened in Chapman, it was hard to tell which damage was where. Chapman, KS, really got nailed. But if you go to the Manhattan Mercury website, you can find quite a bit of info. Looks like Durland, Fiedler, and Ward Hall got hit. Remember, Ward Hall has the nuke reactor! But I guess the damage was mostly external. Anyway, way off topic, but had to respond. It's been a crazy year for tornados this year!  . . . and what happened to those kids in Iowa at the boyscout camp.  Just awful!

And what does the tornado report have to do with "Anyone buy rocky point shrimp from that guy selling at 347 and Riggs?"

It doesn't, it's way off topic as I pointed out. "wildcats" saw that I was from K-State because of my icon and screen name, and took the opportunity to ask. That's all. But you are right, this is supposed to be about the rocky point shrimp guy.

HE'S BACK!!!!!

Just went up today and got lobster, shrimp and scallops from Dennis.

He said he had to come back early since his kids were starting school early.

He will be at Riggs and 347 on Fridays and every other Sunday.  He does take cash and checks!!!

The scallops look fabulous!  He was nearly sold out of the lobster tails

So his next day will be Friday August 8th and his next Sunday will be August 17th -

Think it's safe? Non-inspected, non-licensed, seafood = Russian roulette. In the Northeast we had warnings every year about eating seafood from polluted waters. If it comes from Mexico's coastal waters it should be treated with suspicion (they do not have great sanitation infrastructure). Appearance is no guarantee of safety.

You people are nuts.  There is no oversight on that guy, whatsoever.  Good luck trying to track him down, after you get sick.

Hmmmm....

Let me see~ You go fishing, you catch a big salmon, you bring it home and you feed it to your family.

Well, you aren't inspected, licensed or regulated.  Guess you are playing roulette with your kids lives.

You don't catch a fish in Rocky Point, throw it in the backseat and fry it up when you get home.  Only an idiot would buy from that van.
