Alert | Elite.... I was a realtor in Ocean County too! I was in Forked River, only 5 minutes south of Toms River. I miss WaWa too..... it is hard find a "Jersey" sub here, and even WaWa Subs were better. It was so easy to run in an grab a coffee for the road rather then waiting in line like we do here in Maricopa. We should all have a "Jersey-Philly-New Yorker" night somewhere one evening, it would be fun to get all of us in one place....

Alert | Haven't been on for a while but when I saw "jersey", just had to check it out. My entire family (and I, of course) are from Jersey - more central. Grew up in Raritan, then lived in Branchburg for a while when my parents moved to AZ (I wanted to stay behind) and I've been here since '98. Went to Wildwood, Seaside, Point Pleasant and Belmar every year, sometimes every weekend! 3 Brothers Pizza is the best!!!! And how 'bout waffles and ice cream?? My family and I always get the eggo waffles and make them ourselves. Not the same but just as good!

Hey Mare, I graduated from Branchburg Central School and then Somerville High School. Got out of Jersey as fast as I could after high school, then married a Jersey man and moved to Newton (Sussex Co.) for awhile.
Small world.

Alert | Hey, Everyone from the Phila area: we moved here two years ago from the West Chester area. Prior to that, we lived in Drexel Hill. My husband taught high school for many years at Msgr. Bonner and at Malvern Prep. We spent our summers in Sea Isle. I agree with all the comments about the food. Is everyone aware that you can buy Taylor Pork Roll at Fry's? You can find it in the special cheese section near the lunchmeat counter.

We have a lot in common. We moved here about two years ago from Ocean City NJ, and I taught high school for 30 years in Cumberland CO. NJ. Just had grilled Taylor Pork Roll and cheese for lunch today, Thank God for Fry's.

I grew up in Central Jersey but vacation in Cape May, Ocean City and Wildwood- I remember the log boardwalk in Wildwood and the Trams....Watch the Tram Car Please! No WAY! I remember the tram cars on the boardwalk in AC. DH and I still bring it up and laugh. We're from Philly proper. DH is from the snobby NorthEast and I am a loud and proud South Philly girl. We vacationed in OC for two weeks last year. I gained five pounds eating out. Diner food out there is better than the nicest chains out here. My kids now think WaWa is proof of God. We went to Great Adventure, Hershey Park, Dutch Wonderland and Knoebels Grove. We dipped fresh Philly pretzels in Rita's Water Ice every day. At night we'd walk the boards and buy ice cream at Wonderland (where DH used to work as a teen, operating a ride). I am so itching to move back. We talked about it the entire time we were out there. It felt amazing, after 10 years away, to be in my culture again. We'll have to settle for long visits I guess. | | "In my world, everyone's a unicorn. They eat rainbows and poop butterflies." My kids stand on the posts in front of the door and pose like gargoyles while we take pictures with the camera phone. They've been doing it for years. Don't ask me why. It's just what we do. Uncle Sam's in Scottsdale makes a decent cheesesteak. Another good pizza/calzone spot is T & M's in Casa Grande. It always gets good reviews from the BOH, too. | | "In my world, everyone's a unicorn. Mack and Manco's gets all the publicity but Pisa Pizza is better. It's run by an Italian family and the waitresses are the 5 high school and college age daughters. Speaking of the Music Pier, did you see any of the shows? The best subs in the world come from Sack O Subs on Asbury between 9th and 10th, and who can resist Johnson's hot carmel popcorn? My wife (Italian) just told me that her aunt called and in the conversation said that the Italian market in South Philly is disappearing. Its becoming an Asian area rather than Italian.

Alert | Yeah. Ninth Street has been going south (er...east?) since I went to school near there in the late '80s. But when you consider that back in the day they had skinned animals hanging from the canopies, with flies buzzing everywhere and many other foods out in the open, it's looked like a third world country for decades.
We didn't catch any of the shows. We went in September when the rent was cheap. I got a three bedroom condo for $500/week. It was within walking distance of the Chatterbox.
It was hard getting used to how gross and old things were, compared to the sparkly newness of AZ. But the excellent food and friendly faces were adequate compensation. | | "In my world, everyone's a unicorn. They eat rainbows and poop butterflies." Horton Hears a Who

Sept is the best time down the shore. The crowds are gone, prices are lower, the water is at its warmest, and you can find a place to park. We also like the newness and freshness of AZ. Much of the East is just worn out and tired.

Alert | Here's a little chuckle my daughter sent me..shes still back east finishing her last year at Kean and will be moving out next Spring...we both can't wait...
“I am from NJ. I curse….a lot. I say “YO” and I say it often. I never had school on Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur. I sure as heck don’t pump my own gas. I know what real pizza tastes like, and I know that a bagel is more than just a roll with a hole in the middle. I judge people by what exit they get off the parkway. I can navigate a circle with attitude. All good nights must end at a diner—preferably with cheese fries. It’s a SUB, not a hoagie or worse yet , a hero, and I wash it down with a soda, not pop. I don’t go to the beach I go down the shore. And boardwalk brawls are just a part of the atmosphere. Yes, I drink cawfee. I know that 65mph means 80. I live 10 minutes from a mall. When someone cuts me off, they get the horn AND the finger! And they expect it. | | ANYONE HOME?
