I have been giggling about alanf's response off and on most of the weekend. As much as we all want to say and do the "right" things, especially in an open forum, it is refreshing when someone laughs in the face of all that seriousness.

I actually knew someone in Elementery school that his parents would measure the bath water all week to conserve water or something. Weirdest thing. I didnt ask too many questions but when I used his restroom there were about 5 big buckets of water on the floor full of water and when I asked he said that was his bath water for the week. Felt sorry for the kid. His parents were really strange and he ended up pretty bad himself. I feel bad now cause i stopped hanging out with him because his home situation was so messed up. There was other stuff going on laso. Should have helped him or something.

I should have read this post earlier. I just overseeded a half acre of lawn. It looks kind of like a miniature putting green in the desert. It does keep the dust down. The birds love it. The rabbits really love it. And I was proud of myself for going green.

Well considering that the Earth is warming from Carbon Dioxide emissions it seems to me that we need to plant more grass and trees in order to increase the levels of Oxygen.

See it is a fine balance of drought or flood.

THIS THREAD IS FUNNY... IF THE ENTIRE STATE INCLUDING STATE OFFICIALS WERE SO WORRIED ABOUT CONSERVING WATER.... WHY DOES THIS STATE HAVE SO MANY GOLF CORSES?? Has anyone els noticed that the green in this state isn't really green?? It's more brownish or yellowish green.

Unless you take water into space and release it, the actual quantity of water on earth will always be the same. It will just be in the form of liquid, gas, or solid. I learned this from my college Geology professor.

So then every time someone on the International Space Station takes a whiz and flushes, the earth is devoid that quantity of water? Sheesh, rant at NASA not at us grass planters. <img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/smile.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Smile' align='absmiddle'>

nasa is actually experimenting with recycling urine into drinkable water. when you are in space, every drop really does count.

It is not really an experiment. From what I hear it is done on almost every episode of survivor man and man against wild.

Military Special Ops and Survival Training have taught this for years.

And what really sucks is that the seed that somehow got out of the curbed area actually grew better than in the sod. So now I have to defoliate my rocks!!!

From what I'm told, our HOA here at Desert Passage requires your lawn to be green year round if you have one. So what option do we have? I highly doubt that crappy looking plastic grass (aka "artificial lawn") would fly around here. Besides, that stuff feels like crap and I want grass for my kids to play in .... who wants to roll around in the plastic? Ouch.

Besides, I think it balances out for most people. We all have low flow toilets, low flow shower heads, high efficience washers that use 30 gallons less water per load .... So I'll just use the water savings there on my year round lawn. Ahhhhh ... conservation complete.

I wish we had artificial grass! The good stuff is just so expensive! We looked into it when we first moved here, but have a huge yard and the cost just wasn't going to fly. After now putting in a pool and splashpad and extending the patio and cover, there's not as much grass left and I'm still thinking about possibly getting the artificial at some point. It's not trashy at all if anyone's ever seen it done right, you probably didn't even notice it wasn't real, it looks that good. However, once again, when done right, you are going to pay lots of money for it!

I would get some experienced opinions before making the move on it. The good stuff does look nice, but I've heard it gets too hot to walk on in the summer months.

my sister in law has some artifical grass in her backyard. her backyard is unihabitable (?) in the warm months. The grass is too hot to walk on and the rubber backing stuff actually radiates heat in the yard. you walk near it and the reflective heat is huge.
no matter how affordable that stuff gets, i will never get it.

Our seven reservoirs that feed water into the Phoenix metropolitan area are currently at 95% capacity, up from 62% one year ago. Why are we being a bunch of chicken littles around here?
