Does anyone have any advice re which trees/shrubs will do well here? We have looked at peach, apricot, nectarine, & dwarf orange trees, also rasberry & blackberry bushes. Thanks!

are you in an HOA? do the HOA's in maricopa allow fruit trees? i haven't seen any near my rental in RED so i assumed they were not permitted. you may want to double check before you are forced to tear them out.

I am not aware of any Maricopa developments that allow friut trees in front..but you can plant them in the backyard..as long as you don't have an exposed back fence..

sterling..if you don't have much exp. with Fruit Trees..start out small. I'd start with...no more than two...here's some suggestions..

Arizona Sweet Orange

Marsh Grapefruit

Lisbon Lemon

As far as berries...you would really have to baby them..our zone would make it a true challenge.

Leaf and Feather have the variety of Fruit Trees that are adaptable to our conditions...

garden glow is right - stick with a couple of citrus trees - they do well here in the PHX area. Lisbon lemon will do better than Eureka lemon.

I live in the Alterra neighborhood - have a grapefruit (Rio Red) and lisbon lemon in the ground out back - and on the side of my patio, a dwarf navel and dwarf lime in huge containers. All trees produced fruit the second year in abundance. Also - of all the citrus, grapefruit trees and lemon trees get really big, so plan our space accordingly! Each spring they grow vigorously!

I'd avoid any shrub that you'd typically plant up north - they just don't do as well here with the harsh summer heat.

I was told by the HOA that fruit trees are generally not permitted due to the worry of fruit flies. With all the unattended properties now I agree with this. I've got 2 lemons and an Arizona Sweet orange in my back yard (with HOA Approval). We will see how well they do.

Most HOA's permit them in the backyard...

I'd rather give the flies the fallen fruit to bother instead of me....LOL

with 24000 lbs of manure produced each day near the 'Copa, FRUIT flies would be the least of my worries.
