Alert | Can anyone recommend a company to use to install hardwood floors? What was the cost to do this?
We are considering tearing up the carpet and add hardwood floors within the next year or so.
This may sound stupid, but what did you do with your furniture when you had them installed? We're trying to figure out what we would do with all the furniture if we do this.
Also, which is better...the living room and bedrooms being hardwood floors (kitchen is ceramic tile) or is keeping carpet in the bedrooms OK? We're not sure if we want to just do the living room or if we should do the bedrooms too.
Also, we're thinking of tearing up the vinyl floors in the bathrooms and have real ceramic tiles installed. Any company that can be recommended for this too?
Would Home Depot or Lowes be good options or are there better companies?
We love the tile we had installed for the kitchen and nook, so we want to leave those as is, but our bathrooms, we do want tiles and we want hardwood floors, just not sure which rooms.
thanks everyone! | | | |

Alert | | I say leave carpet in the bedrooms and hardwood in the living room ( I love hardwood floors!) My husband has done tile for all his brothers houses and his fathers ( ours once we finish the backyard) and he can get tile pretty inexpensively. Let me know.

Alert | You can lay tile right over vinyl, no need to tear it up and make that mess... There are a ton of companies out there, just need to shop around. I work for a builder, so we contract through about 3 flooring companies if you'd like there numbers for quotes, just let me know. Good luck! I love wood and cannot wait to do it in my house as well!

Alert | Mike, a couple questions...
We're planing on installing hardwoods also, but I have a concern about the dog.. How long have you had the floors, and have you seen any damage from the dog's nails? (We have a husky too! Maricopa Husky's unite!)..

Alert | | Mike- what did you use...3/4" hardwood, laminate, or engineered wood? Looks great!

Alert | engineered wood.. which i have moved our couches, table and chairs by "dragging" them on the floor... moving them in place. No scrathces what so ever.
The only problem I have with the dog is her drool! She drips water on it, and it spots it to all heck. Nothing damaging.. just makes it look dirty.. so I got to clean it.. But they say standing water on it won't hurt it.. dog nails will not hurt it. I was told if it scuffs up.. a very small amount of goof off on a rag cleans it.
Don't pledge it though. I did that and slide around it with sock on like ice skating..
Dog runs in that room and slides, and tries to run and get traction... never a scratch..
