Hi -
Anyone have a good reference to where we can get a BUNCH of wood chips to put down under a playground set (Christmas present)?

Also, we're considering one of the wooden swingsets from Toys-R-Us, one of the larger ones. Any opinions about the sets sold there?

Thanks!

I don't have a source, but remember wood chips draw crickets - and crickets draw scorpions. You might want to reconsider what material you use.

Any suggestions?

We thought sand would draw scorpions too.....

There was also a news article on channel 5 not long ago about the flammability of wood chips. There are some treated ones that aren't so flammable. All of them will draw ctitters.

For just plain wood chips, Home Depot or Lowes. You can get them in big bags and they come in different sizes.

Stupid should hurt!

Just a note to second all the above mentioned facts as to why woodchips are not a good idea. Years ago in the valley woodchips used to be used around plant areas to keep in moisture and for asthetics. But it went by the wayside after people realized it was a breeding ground for all types of insects and spiders. How about some good ol' soft sand?

The city also made all the HOAs that had wood chips change them to sand. Not that your backyard is subject to city regs on this issue, but they were doing it for safety.

Just say "NO" to wood chips!

Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem.

What about that poured rubber stuff that you see at some playgrounds. If you only have a ilttle patch of it, it may be worth looking in to.
