I went to start my furnace, and it seems that one of my heating units is blowing cool air, so I think the pilot light is out. I have the instrucions, but is there anything I should watch out for?
Any heating companies in town that I could call and have them do it?

I'd get those long fireplace matches, or even the long butane fireplace lighters. The only thing that you really need to remember is that you need to have the switch turned to pilot before you decide to light it. If it is on the on position, you need to turn it to pilot and wait a couple minutes for the gas to disapate before trying to light it.

When you switch it to on, sometimes the furnace will blow itself out. This is when you have to be careful, the first inclination is to take a lit match and relight it. . . However, as I learned once with some severe burns on my hand. . . You REALLY should turn the stupid thing back to pilot. Otherwise you can have the same sensation that I had. Hearing someone scream, and realizing a couple seconds later that it is you.

Calling a heating company to do it for you might be overkill. I'd try the neighbors first if you are squeamish.

I had thought that most furnaces these days have an automatic pilot ignition, you can check to see if your furnace is one of these, and if it is, I suggest you get that fixed. That will solve your problem

Thanks I'll have to check on that auto light. As I said I have the instructions at home I need to read them first. I light our fireplace pilot and I would think it would be simular.

Should be similar. The gas company will come out and light it for you, I would ASSUME for free, cause they don't want you to burn down your house:-p

The red head is BACK!! (and still mouthy)

Definately call the gas co. I know someone who tried to relight his own hot water heater and ended up singing off his eyelashes and eye brows. Good luck.
