go to Home Depot and purchase ten bags or more of blown-in insulation and they let you borrow the spray machine. A bag costs around ten dollars each. One person fills the hopper while the other blows it where you want it to go.

Correct me if I am wrong, but because of the extreme heat here isn't insulating your garage a bad idea? It would just heat it up in the summer to unbearable temps, and just warm it up in the winter which isn't really necessary. Our contractor said he did that, it was the worst decision he ever made, and it took a lot of work to clean it all back out. Talk to some local professionals and ask their opinions before you do this. Let us know what they say!

smigon - What is your reasoning behind your post. I just want to know your logic without a deep debate on the matter?

smigon,
I had my garage attic insulated to R38 like the rest of the attic since it is all connected.

I didn't want all that extra heat entering the attic through the garage ceiling. It gets plenty hot up there anyway, but only about half as hot as the engines in your vehicles when you first park them in the garage.

We keep our side garage door open all day every day to allow the heat to escape.

Delby, our contractor is the one who told us it was the worst mistake he ever made when he insulated his attic. He said that the heat held tight in the summer, and once he removed all the insulation the attic was cooler, so his house was cooler. Makes sense to me.

Thanks for the information everyone, but I still need someone to do the attic insulation - we went to Home Depot to look and since my husband is Handicapped he is unable to crawl around in the attic to blow in the insulation and we don't have a truck to bring home the blower. in the summer we usually leave the garage door open a little to let out the heat of the cars. the insulation the was put in the attic is below the wood now - I believe it has settled and it needs another round of insulation.

Give pkat a PM, he's a local handyman. I don't know if he does insulation but if he doesn't he can probably tell you who does.

I will second pkat- as his work is very clean and affordable. I have seen some of it here in Copa as well as up in Tempe, recently.
