Alert | | they had to install the loop too, so ours was about $1500 (this was for the biggest unit that they sell as well). It was for the unit, tank, the loop and installation. I don't know how we lived a year here without it! | | If you can't spot the loser, it might be you

Alert | | If you have the loop, a 54000 grain unit is $847, with a $1 install fee. That's Lowe's.

Alert | | What are the benefits to a water softener? All I remember about them is that a friend of mine had one and when I slept over there as a kid I hated showering in it SO much! It made me feel slimey and like I couldn't get clean. I remember taking forever to shower there hoping that I could get the slime off me if I stayed in there longer. lol But I haven't used soft water as an adult and I don't know if my feels will have changed or not. I live in Gilbert now, but will be moving to Maricopa at the end of the month. Is the water there really that much worse? (FWIW, we have an R.O. pre-plub, but passed on the soft water loop. Would R.O. be enough?)

Alert | We used Brennan Carr with Rayne. He advertises here and is a Maricopa resident. I had never heard of it before since coming from Texas we didn't need it. Well, after 1 year in a rental without it...YOU GOTTA HAVE SOFT WATER. Otherwise your laundry, dishes and everything the water touches gets ruined. That is just my opinion!! Not a scientific answer...sorry!!! | | Senior Member Posts: 5042 Joined: Jan 2006 You better make it count, cause you can't get it back!

Alert | | RO is only for drinking water at your sink and fridge, sorry. We have been in a rental for 6 months without it and buying drinking water. My DH and son have had itchy skin from showering without the softner, but it doesn't bother me as much. I have to use a little extra conditioner on my hair, but that is all. Softner's affect people differently. | | *********************** Heat beats snow!!!

Alert | | I noticed my skin was really dry, dishes with a white film, dark clothes with a white film. But I did drink that water. LOL I do not have a RO loop now either, I buy bottled! I would not be without my softener though. But like anything, it is what you prefer. | | Senior Member Posts: 5042 Joined: Jan 2006 You better make it count, cause you can't get it back!

Alert | I know what you are saying about the slimy feel, I think that was the older ones. You will notice a different feel and it's not exactly slimy it's your skins oils not being striped away by the hard water mineral deposits. It's also really true that you only have to use half the amount of soap. My laundry detergent, dish soap, etc lasts twice as long now!
We went with Brennan at Rayne, best money I ever spent.

Alert | We got our water softener and RO system through Home Depot. They sent the company, Pristine Water to do all the installs etc. This is my own personal opinion and experience with Pristine Water: They were great with calling, going over paperwork, installing etc. Best service I had until......
I had a question, actually a few a couple months after the install. I got the ole "Oh we'll have a tech call you back" runaround. I NEVER got a call back. After about 5 tries, and a couple of weeks later, I gave up and went on google for my answers and talked to other people Needless to say, when Home Depot called with their survey, Pristine Water got an "A+" with installation etc, but a sold "F" for customer service.

Alert | | Rent my system from Rayne. I didn't have a water softener loop installed in the home I bought. It cost about $150 bucks to run a copper water line from my main water to behind the yard wall, which is where the water softener tank is kept. Its about the size of a helium tank that they use for balloons. I do the monthly rental program where they come out once a month and change out the bottle. Great program, cost around $30 a month and you have to do absolutely nothing. Lived in Gilbert for 13 years before coming here. Gilbert has hard water but the water in Maricopa is alot worse. No clean dishes, no clean clothes and everything has buildup without the softener. Its a must have.

Alert | | We used Maricopa Mountain Plumbing. They are in the Red Barn. I do not remember how much it was, they did a great job! And it was the same or less than Sears.
