I am curious too. I have some grasses and flowering vines that some of the leaves are turning brown. Is that too much or too little water?

It's always best to water only a few days a week, for longer periods of time. The water goes down into the ground, and the roots follow. This helps with deep rich roots. Also prevents bugs from living in your wet top soil.

Water each zone for 15 mins, 2-3 times a week.
plants you can water for like an hour (drip system) every 2 days

But everything....the trees and plants.....are hooked up together in one zone.

mike is right. i water both lawns every other day, 15 mins each. the vines in the backyard get watered with the lawn, its a win win. roses get deep watered every other day as well in the summer, once a week in the winter. it agravates me to see people watering everyday, especially bermuda grass

Okay, I am guessing, I know my grass is on a different line, but everything else is 1 hour a day I think!! What do you think about my vines and grasses that were the only ones to survive the frost etc. and now see browning? I hate to lose all of that. I am clueless on this desert landscape! I should say, everything was just 15 minutes or so a few days a week and I lost many flowering plants. A nursery said 45 plus minutes a day. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is a website that we've found to be very helpful: http://www.wateruseitwisely.com/waterguide/index.shtml

The lawn people were out this morning to fix a valve, and they set the plants and trees to 15 min twice a day, and the Sod at 7 min 2 times a day. Does this sound right or to long?

like religion and restaurant talk...i dont think there is any one right way to look at watering your plants....not every plant will react the same to the water amount they are receiving...your soil ph may also not be consistent throughout your yard...whats good for one plant may not be for another....you can water too much and not enough....but personally...i do not think there is a secret to it....and i dont know if any of you feel this way too...but when i am shopping for plants...and i see something at a nursery that says "full sun"....do they mean full sun during winter time here in AZ...or does it mean it can take 115 degree full sun?...i find those labels very misleading...and have lost some plants recently that got cooked by the sun...and it said full sun on the labeling
