Alert | Anyone interested in co-op gardening? I have the space if you have the interest. Plant, cultivate, harvest etc for fresh produce. | | katycreek@gmail.com

Alert | Katy, I would be completely interested in working on a coop garden. I am also quite interested in getting a CSA to deliver here. Working on that with a broker. For those not aware, a CSA ( community sponsored agriculture) provides weekly local produce, fruit and other items grown on organic local farms for a share. A share is generally 20 bucks a week and provides a large bag of goodies. This process helps support our local farms and provides us with locally grown product rather than shipped in items from the grocery store. If anyone is interested in joining a CSA please contact me at 602-476-8053 | | Great Spirits Have Always Encountered Violent Opposition From Mediocre Minds~ A. Einstein

Alert | I was going to post about this in a week or so, after I tried it, but you beat me to it. www.bountifulbaskets.org is a local co-op that has two delivery points in Maricopa. In my opinion, the website is not the most user friendly. I was going to wait to review it after I ordered so I could answer more questions, but feel free and check it out yourself. They have no prices listed, but I was told it was $16 for about $50 worth of produce.
Ill post again after I try it to let everyone know how it went.

Alert | I have several friends that regularly participate in Bouniful Baskets and I did it for the first time this past weekend. It's $15 for your first time, $17 there after. There is an organic option, but there is no Maricopa pick up for that, and it is more expensive (I don't know how much). Off the top of my head, I got: 4 cucumbers, 1 head of lettuce, 1 honeydew melon, 8 red onions, 12 carrots, 5 potatoes, 6 tomaoes, 6 plums, 6 nectarines, 6 pears, 6 bananas, 2 bunches of cilantro, 4 mangos, and 10 limes. A great haul for $15~
I think the website is pretty friendly, it's not the most high-tech, but it works. You can pay w/credit card, and the process is fairly simple : pick which part of the valley, pick which pick up site, pay, get receipt.
They have it every 2 weeks.

Alert | i love bountifulbaskets, I have been a participant for over a year with them and love the different slections of produce that we get. they offer more than just produce baskets too. They offer all natural bread, spices, honey and fruit in season by the case. Also they do have beef that is all natural as well. My family has enjoyed being part of bountifulbaskets. i think that everyone should try them at least once!
Btw the price that you quoted is backwards, it is 17 for the 1st basket and 15 for every one after that. the price is higher for them to be able to help the cost of purchasing items that are needed. it is a completely run by volunteers.

Alert | Wow! Bountiful Baskets sounds great but they are not a CSA- they buy the produce and alot of other goods from wholesalers which bring in the goods from across the US. A CSA is local only- You are buying from local farms, supporting local agriculture. While I can appreciate the nature of the coop and getting more bang for your buck by cutting out the costs of retail grocery outlets, the coop still contributes to a huge carbon footprint, brings in out of state goods(which cost more) and continues to perpetuate the problem we have with buying out of season goods and produce while neglecting local farmers. I do see that they get the beef local, which is great!!! I also see their bread comes from AZ which is fantastic!! | | Great Spirits Have Always Encountered Violent Opposition From Mediocre Minds~ A. Alert | Great idea, if you can find the local farmers that are willing to participate that would be great. I'm sure alot of people would be interested. I come from Pennsylvania, where there are farmers markets every weekend, just love the produce available at pretty reasonable prices. Nothing I have seen in AZ compares.
