I am wanting to add tempered glass to a few of my kitchen cabinets. Anyone had this done before? Done it yourself? Any recommendations?
Thanks!

I saw this on tv once. They just hammered out the wood in the middle, and then screwed clamps of some sort on the inside kind of like a picture frame, and put the cut glass in that same space. looked nice..

I don't know if I'd just go hammer the wood out, I think like on mine, you'd have to take a top or bottom part out - slide the middle and slide the glass in..

I took mine to a cabinet maker
He remove the middle wooden panel
Which we kept for future use
Then he put in glass panels

dirtfrmr-

Would you be willing to share who you used? Do you reccomend them?

I am a little leary of doing it myself, as I don't want to mess up the cabinet permanently.

Try John at Lizard Heights Glass. 520/868-6180. He made shelves for me and they look great. Good luck.

I purchased cabinets my wife didn't like (my bad). So she would definitely be up for this kind of thing. If anyone pulls the trigger, please keep us posted. I'll probably be doing this in a month so I can post back then.

Thanks for all the replies. I did look at the cabinets (Oakcraft Maple) and they are the type where if you can get one side off, the middle piece slides right out. I also priced the glass with Lizard Heights and it is very reasonable.

Last night my husband was "practicing" on our old bathroom vanity (has the same cabinets as our kitchen). LOL!!! I think we may have to leave it to a professional to get the side off, but we have one more trick up our sleeves. The good thing is our cabinets are perfectly made for a project like this and the glass (1/8") will slide right into its place.

I will keep you posted of who we find to do it, or if we attempt to do it ourselves.

It would be better not to take the door apart, they are not meant to be put back together. The sides have a 'dato' cut in them the center panel fits into, if you CAREFULLY cut the dato inside the cabinet, you can lay the glass inside and use a clip to hold it in place.

This is an update. I found someone to do this for 3 of my cabinets. They are fairly large cabinets and the price was a little over $400.

If you would like the phone number and company please PM me.

Thanks!

My brother did mine and he works for TDC. If you guys have seen mine they look great and it is an inexpensive way to make your kitchen look fantastic. Also with the edition of the crown molding it will look classy. Not to say I am classy but what the heck.

My cupboards wouldn't look classy with glass in the doors, the reason they make cupboards is to hide your junk hehehehehehehhe
