Alert | Is anyone interested in swapping or trading plants? I'm an avid desert gardener in VRED with an abundance of agave pups (babies). I have green, blue and variegated agaves to offer. Granted, this may not be the ideal time of year to be planting cacti or succulents, but I'd like to know if there's interest now before I attempt to find them homes. The trade can take place when it's a more condusive time for transplanting.

Alert | | I also have lots of green agave pups. I do have lots of cactus that look cylindrical with arms growing off the main body. I don't know what they are called, but grow fast and are doing very well. I keep pulling the longer arms off and transplanting them. I could give up several arms if anyone is interested-PM me. KMT, I would also like a blue and variegated pup. I also live in the villages. I will PM you.

Alert | I have the typical agave to swap (Agave americana var. americana ). But I would LOVE LOVE LOVE a variegated agave! I have been coveting one for a while now. I received a couple off eBay that didn't make it. I also have several passiflora. Can't think of anything else at this time to trade. | | Crunchy AP, BF, CD, BW mama!

Alert | Is there a Senita (Lophocereus schottii), Organ Pipe (Stenocereus thurberi), Mexican Fence Post (Stenocereus marginatus, also known as Pachycereus marginatus) or night-blooming cactus someone is willing to share? Anyone with a small Saguaro? Here are others on my wish list: Manfreda, Echinopsis (any type), Mammillaria (any type), Parodia (any type), Rebutia (any type) . . . I do love cacti! I grew 7 barrrel cactus from seed and hope to have the same luck with Bishop's Cap (Astrophytum myriostigma). Where can Pineleaf Milkweed (Asclepias linaria) be found?

Alert | Don't know what species it is but this one looks like it. static.howstuffworks.com/gif/prickly-pear-cactus-1.jpg Mine is nearing 3 ft tall and the blossoms were yellow. My wife sure does love candles, oils, bath oils and all that smelly stuff. | | I thought it was great that I seemed to be getting more patience with age...turns out I just don't give a darn.

Alert | Ah, one I don't have! Yes, I would like a few pads - or the whole plant depending its size! Opuntia are notorious for lodging glochids (tufts of spines) in one's skin. I use Scotch Brite pads to scrape them off. I think duct tape is suppposed to work well for pulling them out too. PM me with your contact info.

Alert | PM Sent Yes it will bite if you get too close. Duct tape works ok, but I'll have to try the scotchbrite trick. | | I thought it was great that I seemed to be getting more patience with age...turns out I just don't give a darn.

Alert | Posted By kmt85238 on 07/16/2008 8:39 PM Where can Pineleaf Milkweed (Asclepias linaria) be found? We found ours at either the Desert Botanical Garden plant sale (they have a spring and a fall sale), or at Boyce Thompson Arboretum. I don't recall exactly, but either place is a decent bet to find some less common plants.

Alert | I have 4 small palm tree seedlings. They didn't grow like the rest of the seeds I transplanted. The ones I transplanted in areas where they are well watered are 1-2 feet tall. These ones are only a few inches. But if transplanted in a place where they will get lots of water, they will grow fast. I just have so many, that I really don't have a place to put these. So I am giving them away. Post here or PM me if interested. They're either Mexican Fan Palms or California Fan Palms. Very fast growing. | | Crunchy AP, BF, CD, BW mama!

Alert | Geez if your looking for Cactus go to Phoenix Desert Nursery 3525 E Southern. I think i stocked my whole house from their. Let me see the green pickly pear shown earlier in this thread, purple prickly pear, Teddy Bear Cholla, Buckhorn Cholla, Easter Lily Cactus, Golden Barrels, Staghorn Cholla, 14 foot Ocotillo, Old Man Cactus, mexican fire barrel and Organ Pipe. Got them all for under $10 each and their growing like mad. Clarrosa came from them too. I think the only thing in my yards that didn't come from them were the two palms and the Desert Hackberry. They must have over 10,000 cactus their of every single type. The guy who runs it is great too.

Alert | Thanks for the info! I will definitely have to check it out. According to the website, they have a pretty large selection - lots of agaves. I found another nursery (searching the Net) offering cacti: Baker's on 40th, between Thomas and Indian School.

Alert | Your welcome.. I suggest them because they have the largest selection and lowest cost. I have been to others that are cacti only and they offer something for $50 that you can get their for $15 ... Drawback is they are not open on sundays so you have to go on Saturday's.. The largest single collection of all types including some hard to find ones. They are mainly a wholesale place but one that is open to the public for retail purchase.. They do alot of city contracts and business contacts for cacti only which is the reason for the huge selection.
