So I am getting fitted for contacts today for my stigmatism(sp?). My general eye sight is good, other then that glare. The eye doc told me alot of people don't like to wear contacts for this condition because they slide around etc......Anyone have contacts for this reason? How are they?

I have that too (I think that's how you spell it)! You'll have to let me know how you like contacts. I wore them for a week awhile ago, and they really hurt my eyes, so I stick to glasses when needed. But they have new ones, just for that, and my eyes are getting worse... Please keep me updated. I want them, but don't want to spend they money if I'm not going to wear them. Good luck!

I do. I've had them for a little over a year. I have a bad astigmatism in both eyes, other than that my eyes are perfect.
They don't slide around all that much but it definitely took some getting used to and I ruined a couple of pairs the first few months. After a couple of weeks my eyes start getting annoyed by them and so I'll take a couple days break from them and just wear my glasses. Also when I get tired I notice they kind of get fuzzy and it's a little harder to see. Not sure what's up with that.
It's also harder for me to order contacts online (i.e., 1800contacts) because my astigmatism is so bad that only a few people have the correct size.
But don't get me wrong, I do love wearing contacts a lot more than glasses and I wouldn't go back to wearing glasses full-time.
Good luck!

I have astigmatism too. The contacts are weighted, meaning they are thicker on the bottom than on the top. I don't have any problem with them, and I have had them for seven or eight years. They even make disposables now. Some people wear them for a while and then don't have to anymore, so keep your fingers crossed! It's very common, and really not a big deal anymore. You should ask if you have to wear the toric lenses because someone people have mild astigmatism and can wear regular lenses. The toric lenses are much more expensive than regular lenses. Good luck!

Yes, that's really my name

yeah, I have the toric ones, and like you said, they're a little more expensive than the regular ones.
But better then glasses, imo.

I have had gas permiable lens for years, due to my astigmatism. they are not always comfortable but i can see better.
My doctor just told me about a hard lens surrounded by a soft lens. They are pricey. $600 for a years worth of lens. you throw them out every six months.
He said he patience with this condtion love the lens because they are more comfortable.
I have terrible eyesight and I looked into Lasik, needless to say, I am not a candidate because the eye sight and astigmatism are so bad, but they said the FDA is looking to approve the Toric implantable contact lenses soon. So here is another expensive option.
Good luck!

My husband just had lasik for the astigmatism. He was told by Barnett Dulaney that he wasn't a candidate but Lasik Plus said he was. He is so much happier not having to wear glasses to see distance and it even helped with his reading vision as well.

Takingabreak,
what did they recommend for your husband at Barnett Delany? that is where I went and was told no way, inplantable contact lenses is what they said would be best.
Maybe it is time for a second opinion.

K well I went and got them, they aren't so bad ! They are a little hard to put in and take out though and I know it isn't rocket science, but I guess practice makes perfect. I did get the toric ones and it was a NICE improvement to my eyes !

I have an Astigmatism also. 2 yrs ago I was checking into the Lasik surgery. I went 2 of the "chain" locations for consults. At each place they had a very difficult time getting the readings on my left eye. The first place I went I just didnt get a good vibe from and they were very pushy. At the second place I told them I was there for a 2nd opinion, they then proceeded to talk bad about the first place I had gone to. That just didnt settle well with me either. A few months later a coworker had the surgery done by Barnett Delaney. She raved about them so I went there for a consult. At the first 2 consults I was there for 2 hours at each office. So when I was at B D they did one test on me and sent me back to the office to wait for the doctor. I'm thinking wow that is all they had to do. Then the Dr. came in...right away he said I wasnt a candidate for the surgery. That the cornea in my left eye was to thin. That if I had the surgery done anyways I had a very high chance of having problems with that eye later on and that it would not be able to be fixed by glasses or surgery. I was very happy with there honesty and glad I didnt have the surgery done at a chain location. If you do some research on the Dr. in AZ that do the surgery you will find the AZ has some of the best in the country and one of the founders of Lasik works at Barnett Delaney.

Barnett Delaney also told my husband that he would need to have the inplantable contact lenses to correct his vision. We went to Lasik Plus for a second opinion on a recommendation of my friend who also was told she couldn't have the surgery (I forget why) but had great success.

Both my son and I used Barnett Delaney for our surgery, mine 12 years ago, son's in Dec.
