Alert | LOL - Chocolate does help, but there's that nasty weight gain side effect... ;-)
I was on Effexor for almost a year for BD, but the side effects like insomnia were getting too much to handle, and it wasn't that effective for me anyway, so my doctor switched me to Lexapro. I can sleep now, but now I have to deal with two other ugly side effects: weight gain, and a decreased sex drive. It seemed ridiculous to me to be taking a medication for being unhappy that was giving me side effects that made me unhappy, so I took myself off of it.
BAD CHOICE!
The first day or two were pretty good - I was giddier than a school girl... but then I spiraled into a withdrawal that nearly put me over the edge. I found a really nice psychologist/counselor in Maricopa who told me before she even saw me to A) get back on my medication immediately and B) start taking St. John's Wort and Fish Oil. I can't take Fish Oil because of a seafood allergy, but I went out that day and bought some St. John's Wort, which seemed to help. "Rescue" (a homeopathic remedy) is good for bad days too.
So now we are trying to find me a doctor (psychiatrist) who can perscribe a different medication for me that won't have these troubling side effects. So far though, I can't find ANYONE in Maricopa that can do this? I have BCBS insurance, and they aren't much help either. Do I need to go outside the copa to get this sort of assistance? Either way, can anyone reccomend someone? I hate just picking a name off a list, I would MUCH rather go off of a reccommendation.

Alert | Personally I have tried Zoloft, it worked good for the first 6 months or so but then just stopped working and made me feel even more anxious. That’s when dr. said that I should try two small doses of Xanax a day but I cant take that stuff it puts me right to sleep. I too stopped taking my medication abruptly instead of weaning off of it, it really does make you feel as though you are going crazy or dieing, I was in bed for a week.
I eventually just learned to deal with it and it has gotten better. After 8 years of a severe panic disorder, not going anywhere by myself, not driving, spending whole days in bed and going from medication to medication I am happy to say that I am handling it on my own. There is always that slight fear in the back of my head that a big attack is going to hit but whenever I feel it coming on I take a big deep breathe and quickly find something to distract my mind and body.
Honestly, if you haven’t tried Celexa I would if I were you. I took it for a short period before I got pregnant, had to get off it when I found out. It worked really good though, didn’t make me feel a zombie or someone I am not. Like I said, my mother takes it and its really helped her out.
I wish you luck! | | | |

Alert | | Apologies, I know this thread is titled "Anxiety Medication", but I am actually on medication for Bipolar Disorder, which I don't think Celexa would necessarily work for. I have heard suggestions of Welbutrin... does anybody have any experience with that or any other anti-depressants? | | | |
