Anyone had any good experiences with anxiety medication. Most I have tried cause wt gain. I know meds work differently for each person but just wanted to know if anyone has had a good experience with one over another.

Try Valerian Root, avail. OTC. smells bad but will work wonders. This has been used for thousands of years, starting with the Romans.

Brains, nerve and beauty all in one package! A win win for the Republicans!

I don't do Big Pharma products....

I use Rescue remedy (I but it at Sprouts)... it's a bunch of flower extracts... works good when you start to feel anxious.

Also, I see Christina for accupunture and it works fabulous!! her number is 520-483-8385 her office is off of Honeycutt.

I'm not a big fan of prescription medications either, but I started taking an anxiety/depression med (Effexor XR) about a year ago and have had a LOT of success with it. I had many, many health problems and since I started taking Effexor, all have improved - I feel like I have my life back.

Need more info? Just respond.

Also - from an OTC standpoint, Valerian Root is good, as is St. John's Wort.

Just wanted to chime in and say that St. John's Wort is one of those herbs that might help you or might kill you. I tried 2 pills one morning and within hours my blood pressure was through the roof (as in I thought about calling an ambulance) and I was covered in sweat. I lived. You might not.

Paxil sucked because of the side effects, Xanax did nothing for me.

Physical training is helping.

What about Zoloft? Has anyone tried it? My doc just put me on that one. We'll see if it works.

For me, Zoloft helped with the anxiety, but I eventually felt like I had to get off of it. Unfortunately, I did not stop the medication under a doctor's supervision and went cold turkey. I experienced horrendous withdrawal symptoms that lasted about 5 weeks. I don't EVER want to go through that again! I'm in no way telling you not to take the Zoloft--I am telling you to make sure you communicate with your doctor! Good luck!!

I studied Organic Nutrition and over the last 20 years have been witness to people who went organic or at the very least, clean. Most got remarkable, quick and steady relief from anxiety and depression as well as various other emotional and physical maladies. Some discoverd they had just felt so bad physically for so long and they didn't know what it was so they assumed it was depression. I've also seen total turn arounds in children regarding behavior problems and allergies. It might be worth looking into. I love to coach for the shear kick of seeing people get better.

Ok, a little self disclosure here. I took Zoloft for PPD. Took it for 3 mos. & it worked wonders. Couldn't have gotten through without it. With that said, many anitdepressants have antianxiety effects and they are not Benzodiazepines so they're not addictive & you can still function on them. Also, many meds used as anticonvulsants or antipsychotics can be effective for anxiety as well. Consult a psychopharmacologist or psychiatrist. Feel better soon!

I would try exercise. Get some sort of cardio and weight training 5 to 6 days a week. It will make a world of difference! And what about different breathing techniques? When you start to feel anxious and you are getting that sick and/or tired feeling, put your hand on your stomach and feel every breath you take in and out, then put your hand on your chest, you shouldn't feel your breathes coming from there. Have you ever watched a baby sleeping? Their stomachs go up and down with every breath, not their chests. It is because they are relaxed and it happens naturally. Focus on breathiing the same way when you are starting to feel anxious and will you let me know if it works for you?

I have to agree. I went organic about a year and a half ago (hehe and forced the kido too). For awhile I was having bad anxiety but it has decreased alot! I use to do accupuncture once or twice a month along w/ Rescue remedy almost daily but now it's every once in awhile.
Pumping all those chemicals puts your body off balance...especially your nervous system.
Definitely talk to a herbalist or naturopath to find out how certain hebs can effect your body 'cause yes some do cause a bump in blood pressure and other things. You should educate yourself on anything you put in to your body even if it's natural.

Just discovered the premiere issue of a new magazine on the rack at Fry's. It is called "Clean Eating" . Lots of great articles and ideas. Gym gear and kitchen gagets. It has a 30 day menue with a shopping list and recipies for real food, real meals. I checked out the recipies while still in the store, then went to get the makings for the "Stuffed Poblano Peppers" recipie. This is gonna be fun. It has an article about magnesuim being the new "chill pill". Some of you might want to look into it.

Regarding making your kid eat the organic food; my kids ate it too, then again, it was all there was in the house! We did not do a lot of sick days and allergies and they learned to cook early on. My kids are raising their kids organic. I am glad they realised the benefits and kept it going.

MustLoveDogs, I tried Lexapro 4 yrs. ago for PPD and it helped a little. After being on it for appx. one year I switched to Wellbutrin. I lost about 7 lbs. in that first month. I love Wellbutrin, it's kind of an 'upper' for me and it helped me to never have any "baby blues" the second time around. Maybe it would help you with the weight gain side effect.

And I should added that breaking the Paxil habit was the hardest thing I've ever done.

You've probably stuck a 9V battery to you tongue before. Imagine sticking it to your brain every 3 to 5 seconds. Nice thought huh? Now, to break Paxil you might have to go through this for DAMN NEAR THREE WEEKS LIKE I DID. And yes, I tapered off over a two month period.

AM exercise with a (dependable) friend would be my best suggestion.

Well, I've found through researching over the past 10 years that if you eat right and exercise, you don't need supplements or the "Natural" OTC items.

St. John's Wort was proven to have no effect on one's health and is considered dangerous in high doses. There is a reason most of that stuff says: "Has not been proven by the FDA to have the effect suggested by the manufacturer" because they jump through legal loopholes not to get tested as a drug.

Most Homeopathic doctors are basically snake oil salesman. Yeah, they go to school but just to learn how to sell the products to patients/customers. Mind over matter.

Don't waste your money on the herbal stuff because you just end up paying too much and flushing it down the toilet.

Leave the meds to the Doctors and eat as clean as possible.

I took Lexapro for about a year... ended up running out of my rx and the pharmacy wouldn't refill it since my doctor moved.. yada yada yada (long story...), anyways, I thought that this would be the perfect time to stop taking the meds... what a mistake. I literally went crazy and thought I was about to snap. I'm lucky that my students are really good and understood that I was on edge. My husband on the other hand... he was not so lucky!
Finally went back to the dr. and was put on zoloft since I am trying to get pregnant.
I hate the fact that I am on medication, but for right now, its what is keeping me sane and I am thankful for that.
After my withdrawal symptoms I swore I'd never go on meds again, but I realized how much I needed it for now...
If you have specific questions, please PM me.

It's great that some of you can feel better by eating well and excercising, but you shouldn't expect that of everyone. Depression is hereditary and is not a term to throw around loosely. Some people truly need medication.

My grandmother hasn't left her house in about 20 yrs. due to depression and agorophobia and finally several years ago my mom was able to get her to take Zoloft. She feels like a new person. My mom inherited this from her and so did I. If I didn't take medication I would probably stare at the wall all day. I have eaten extremely healthy for about 10 yrs. now but I know that the medication I have taken is what has helped me to be able to not succumb to my genes.
