I'm not a whimp, but man! How long does this hurt for? Bumped it yesterday and thought I was gonna cry!!! Is this normal?

48 hours old...

the amount of pain with a tattoo depends ont he location...that is true also of the length of time they are "tender".

Areas closer to bone(hands, feet, backs, ankles) tend to hurt more and longer...

Fleshy areas, calves and shoulders are usually les painful....

But this all depends also on the detail of the work and also the person....

Are you keeping it covered in lots of Neosporin and keeping it out of the water?? Very important in the long run. The Neosporin will keep it soft and less painful.

Within a day it will feel like a sunburn.

I have one on my calf -- after I got it I though "wow, that didn't hurt a bit" and I got a back piece (24" high, 12" wide). You don't know pain until they tattoo over your spine. THAT was painful (but worth it!!)

Doing the neosporin thing. Didn't know about hte water thought. Just said not to use lotions or to use scented soap, don't let the showerhead hit it etc...

NOOO back pieces for me! Much braver than I am! Took me years to do this!

don't feel bad..when i got mine about a century ago...there were 5 guys fresh out of boot camp all wanting tattoos to show how tough they were... two outright cried and one the tattooist had to stop and give the guy a break because he look like he was going to pass out...I couldn't help but laugh at them....

Weird I had my upper & lower back done I don't recalling it hurting after. I do remember scabbing, it's cool when it's one long piece!

Sorry Nick, I'm sure there are certain body areas that are more proned to pain. I've heard the calf and inside of the upper arm are really painful. I had mine done years ago along with piercings, maybe I have a high tolerance for pain, or maybe I like it!

As for where on the body to get a tattoo, I always liked my back because it can be covered when it needs to be. As for where to get it done Miami Ink? haha I watch the show way too much.

I was VERY happy with where I went. Was recommened by brother who has lots or them! PM me if you want to know who and where. I had my own idea of what I wanted, was able to sit down with the guy, explain and show him, he drew it up exactly, added to it to make it look more dimensional and was very reasonable too! Very clean, etc!

I had permanent makeup applied a couple of years ago. Basically, it's tattoo'd eyeliner and lip color. Talk about PAIN! That was enough for me.

My ex-boyfriend's mom had permanent makeup done in Mexico. It looks awful! She had eyeliner, lip liner and her eyebrows done. The lip liner makes her look like a clown and her permanently high eyebrows make her look surprised all the time ^.^

My aunt had eyeliner done on herself and it looks very nice and natural.

I had mine done at the Merle Norman Salon in CG. Kelsie did a great job - it looks very natural. It isn't a solid line for the eyeliner, but a series of small dots at the base of the lashes. Same with the lipcolor. If I'm not wearing any makeup at all, I don't look made up. Just like I had fuller lashes than I have. I went with lip color the same as my natural color for the outline - no harsh clown look!

Nyfiggy1 I did almost 3 weeks worth of research before I picked my parlor and artists. Every artist has strengths and weaknesses. Most artists have example of there stuff on there websites. I say hit Google and start narrowing it down. Last thing you want is a bad tattoo that will be there for the rest of your life.

I am very happy with mine and I cried through the whole thing. It HURT so bad. I had it done on my upper back / lower neck area in the middle... OUCH

neosporin should only be used for the first 24-48 hours after you get tattooed, it is petroleum based and does not allow any air to get to the healing wound.. after that keep it lubricated with a good quality, unscented hand lotion, like lubriderm. personally, i swear by an all natural herbal product called tattoo goo, available from some tattoo artists. it is available online as well, but last time i checked it was only available wholesale, which meant i had to buy a dozen tubes of the cream and a dozen pots of the ointment. not very practical if you're not as tattoo happy as i am!!! as far as how long it hurts, i am way the wrong person to answer that one. i fell asleep while having my back piece shaded. to me, after the work is done, the worst it has ever felt is like a cat scratch.
