My husband and I are trying to start eating healthier. This is not a diet of any sort - we just want to eat better for overall better health.

I was talking with a colleague about a healthy eating plan where you don't eat anything with CRAP in it. I think the C stands for corn syrup but don't know what the RAP stand for.

Anyone know what I'm talking about? I know there are going to be a bunch of jokes about this but it is true. I don't usually eat CRAP anyway.

The best present ever! A day at the Phoenix Zoo as a Zookeeper. Feeding the giraffs was one of the most exciting parts of the day.

R = red meat... I thought!

Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem.

I quit eating stuff with a bunch of preservatives in it a long time ago and I feel better. This eliminates most grocery foods like frozen foods (hot pockets, frozen dinners etc) and packaged snack cakes. No margarine, only real butter, fresh fruits and vegs, even organic. You can add a whole new dimension to your eating by broiling with fresh herbs and spices.

I'm not certain, either. I think that Sinbad is probably right on the "R" meaning red meat, but the day I give up my steak will be a cold day in you-know-where. I'd venture a guess that the "A" stands for "artificial" as in aspartame and the "P" stands for "preservatives"? That's just a guess, though. I have read in various diet books, such as Atkins and South Beach, that certain artificial sweeteners such as aspartame can cause fluctuations in your blood sugar levels much like eating sugary snacks do. If that is true, they can still have my diet soda when they pry it from my cold, dead fingers, lol!

Gee...if I could only stick to a "no CRAP" diet...meaning no Caramel Macchiato from Starbucks, no Rosatis spagetti with extra meatballs, no Apple Crisp with ice cream, and no Pints of Guinness on the weekends, I'd be skinny as a bean in no time, lol! But then, I'd be cranky! *smile*

Redmeat isn't that bad for you. It's all about portion size.

C= Coke
R= Reese's Peanutbutter Cups
A=Alcohol
P=Pan fried food

<---- Look at my avatar, I should know how to eat well.

I'd rather live one day as a lion, than my whole life as a lamb.

I agree with rescuemom. I quit buying things that come in bags, boxes, jars, etc. a long time ago. Fresh food is the way to go! Every now and then, I do enjoy Starbucks or something, but for the most part it's all healthy food. I have more energy and feel so much better!

Thanks everybody.

Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas are good time to start.

I think sarac it might right about what I was hearing from my colleagues.

Caffeine, refined, artificial and processed. That's just about everything I do eat. I guess it will be one day at a time.

I bought the book 'Skinny B...ch'. It talks about the different foods that we put in our bodies and what food does to our system. It was very interesting- and very profanically blunt.

Is the book a guide to being a healthy person or a diet thing?

I'm just tired of putting all these chemicals in my body. We are trying to be chemical free with cleaning as well. It's not so much 'going green' for the planet as it is for our own health. I can't imagine all the chemicals that are in my body right now.

Ugh!

Also stay away from high fructose corn syrup; it is one of the suspected elements in the obesity epidemic. It is also completely unnatural as it does not occur in nature.

If you can't afford to go all organic (it's spendy) you can get away with foods you peel, like bananas or oranges, as the chemicals are mostly on the part you throw away.

Yeah... organic or natural is great...RAW is better.... cut out all white breads/pastas stuff like that. Eat only whole grains... TONS of fruits and veggies...lean cuts of meats and fish. Cut out fast and prepackaged foods.
Always check labels. Something could be labeled "good" and have icky ingredients. If it looks like another language you probably don't want to eat it.....

Ppppppbbbbbbssssssssssttttttttt!
