Hi. Dr Kerr is leaving, and do you know who you will be seeing now for your thyroid problem? Thanks.

I actually just started seeing Dr. Kerr in October and was so bummed to find out that she will be moving out of state. I am going to try the other girl in the office that Dr. Kerr recomended to me. She said that Crystal ( I think that was her name, I have her card at home) has helped her on many thyroid cases. I am going back a few days before Dr. Kerr leaves. I think I am also going to ask her for some other recomendations for other doctors who are really good with thyroid issues just in case it doesn't work out.

What kind of thyroid problem do you have? I have Hashimotos, and I'm on Armour. Still trying to get adjusted here.

I'm 68 years of age and have had annual thyroid blood screens for years to determine dosage requirements. I was recently notified by Medicare that TSH screenings are considered medically unnecessary and are no longer covered.

For the time being, I think my Blue Cross & Blue Shield is still covering the blood screens, but probably not for long since health insurance companies usually follow Medicare's lead in things like this. It really is all about the money!!!

When that happens I'll be unable to get my prescription Levothyroxine and will just stop taking it when my current prescription expires. I pay several hundred dollars per month in Medicare and insurance premiums and there is no way I will pay for the tests. The reason I say that is that my dosage is very low and I notice very little effect when I go off the drug for extended periods of time. My doctor has advised me that I could probably live without it, but thyroid hormone helps regulate the other endocrine glands.

Wow thats a little scary about the Medicare. We are on the PPO plan with BC/BS. Hopefully they won't stop paying for it, I'm getting it done atleast once a month. I have a lot of money taken out of my paycheck for this plan, so they better pay for it. LOL

Azgirl I will let you know about the list Dr. Kerr gives me when I go in for my appt.

thiskiss--are you still getting your dosage adjusted? I had testing frequently when I was first diagnosed, but then once the meds were adjusted properly I am only tested every 6 months. Just curious. . . .maybe I am not tested enough!

this is a good thread for me to read but I am in a huge hurry right now. I will surely come back later.

I went from 172 to 154---almost 20 lbs. so now I can wear my clothes.

I did parasitic cleansing to begin with and now I am doing what many are doing
on a Thyroid Yahoo support group and that is to take Hydrocortizone...a pill.
I ordered it from an online pharm.

My friend in Oregon who has the same problem clued me in on some of my symptoms.
A problematic thyroid can cause heart problems and I was coughing all the time
and it was my heart.

I am working with my thyroid/adrenals and this pill is working great for me but if you are interested just email me for more info.

Anyway, I take Lugol's iodine....4 drops a day and I take the HC ---since taking HC I don't cough anymore so my heart is not stressed out.

Hc is a cortizone which your thyroid makes and taking a synthetic works great for me.
As I said I lost weight and that is a biggie for me. All of us should have our cortizone
levels checked.

I read that we cannot absorb any thyroid med unless our cortizone levels are up to par.
so that's another reason I am taking HC....so that when I do take Armour or any other
thyroid med my body can use it.

I also read that Synthroid is a bad med and that Armor is the one to choose.

My symptoms were heart palpitations, ringing in my ears and hearing my heart pound in my ears as well, blurred vision, digestion problems, swelling, depression and pissed off over nothing most of the time, sleep problems.....now I realize where all that negativity was coming from and it was not me it was my thyroid.

I have never had any of those problems. Looking online those aren't any of the symptoms of hypothyroidism. Just a thought.

Bizybeth, I am in the process of still getting my levels adjusted. My levels were all good and everything at 85mg but we decided to go up to a 100 because I was still having a lot of cramps, now I seem to be doing really fine. About a half a year ago, I was doing it I think like every three months or so, but that was shortly after I had been diagnoised. Going to get blood work done again either tomorrow or wednesday, then hopefully I will be good for awhile.

I don't have health insurance so I understand the self pay pain. I've found an affordable solution - Bashas. Just about monthly they have the mobile lab at the store. The typical test of the month panel includes the thyroid panels. Total cost for TSH,T3, T4, and a host of other things like glucose, cholesterol & triglycerides costs less than $70.

I'm actually going to follow up with Dr. Visser who is an ND. He is one of the few who accepts insurance.
