Alert | | Yes sodas are tough on your teeth. Especially if you drink a lot of them. I will usually only have one soda a day or less than that. Then I drink about a gallon of water a day. If I get bored of it I will put lemon with a little Splenda in my water to make it taste like a treat. Diet soda is better. But having 9 sodas a day is a awful lot of empty calories being consumed in a day. Imagine 9 12 oz Cokes that is 1350 calories. That is how much I consume a day for weight loss. Alert | Okay, this is freaking me out! Scary! I must say that I was completely off soda a few years back when I was trying to get pregnant the first time. I got hooked on Diet Coke while I was in College. I drank about 3 Big Gulps a day. So when my husband and I were trying to get pregnant I went completely off of it. Yeah, those withdrawal headaches were terrible. I actually stayed off of it until my 2nd child was a baby. Then out came the Code Red Mountain Dew. Dummy me tasted it and I started drinking diet soda again. I like the Diet Code Red. My youngest is 6 now and I think he was one when I started drinking it again. We've been trying to get pregnant for 4 years now and yes we have fertility problems. I had bad endometriosis that has since been removed. But now this makes me wonder if drinking diet soda is one the reasons why I'm still not pregnant? The doctor says he has no idea why I'm still not pregnant. Hmmm. I drink maybe 2-3 12oz cans a day, so not a ton but probably one is even too much. Sometimes I'll get a large Diet Dr Pepper from Sonic. That is too much cause their large is really big. My feet always ache, my back hurts a lot, and yes I'm always tired. I could get 8 hours of sleep but it doesn't matter, I'm still tired all day. I have a great low sugar hydrating drink that I'm going to start drinking more of. It has nothing bad in it at all. Okay, so I'm done. I'm not buying anymore Diet Soda. I'll finish off what I have in the house which is 2 cans I think and then I'm done. Oh boy, I'm not looking forward to those headaches. I may be on hear looking to scream at someone. Please bear with me.

For your own health it will be worth it. The list of possible side effects are long and terrifying. As a member of the National Soft Drink Association Coke (also the maker of Dr. Pepper and a long list of others) opposed FDA approval of aspartame for beverages. Their objections, running to several pages published in the Congressional Record of 5/7/85, said aspartame is uniquely and inherently unstable and breaks down in the can. It decomposes into formaldehyde, methyl alcohol, formic acid, diketopiperazine and other toxins. In a study on 7 monkeys 5 had grand mal seizures and one died, a casualty rate of 86%.
In addition, caffeine constricts blood vessels, which reduces blood flow to the uterus and prevents eggs from attaching to the uterine wall.
I personally know a girl who started to suffer from seizures and started to develop MS. Docs couldn't figure out the cause. As a last resort he suggested she stop drinking her daily Crystal Light. Both to her dismay and joy all her symptoms went away.
You owe it to yourselves to become responsible for what you and your family consume. Until these companies are forced to come out with the truth due to deaths and illnesses and HAVE to take products off the market you won't hear it. It's no different then big pharms. Remember Olestra? Remember saccharin? This is the pattern, and it will continue to be. Now they are saturating the market with genetically modified foods and that opens up a whole new can of worms.
Sorry I can just go off on a tangent here. Best of luck to you! Come off slowly. | | | |

Alert | If you must drink soda, you are better off taking in the calories in regular soda then the poisin (nutrasweet, splenda, ect.) in diet soda and other "sugar free" items. Here's a good rule of thumb I like to go with:
If it's made in a lab it's not food!!!
Also interesting that they are called "artificial sweeteners". You wouldnt eat an artificial piece of fruit would you?

Alert | | Let's just say that if I ever have to give up coke, you will feel like the town has been hit by a nuclear explosion. Since I wish to avoid distressing all of you that way, I will continue with my only acknowledged vice. | | *********************** Heat beats snow!!!
