Alert | | Do you drink enough water? In the desert you should have at least 10-12 glasses of water a day. If you are not getting enough water you will be fatigued and fuzzy minded. They thought I had a thyroid problem and kept testing it, then I got a good tip from Weight Watchers and I drink about 16 glasses of water a day and in a few weeks the tiredness and fuzziness cleared right up. I also have asthma and for years they thought I was depressed as well but apparently the asthma symptoms and the depression symptoms are very much alike. Because I was not getting enough oxygen (my lungs wouldn't open up fully) I was tired, had no energy and I felt like crap for years etc. I had a coughing fit at the doctors before they realized what was really going on. But what really helped was the water intake .. I noticed more of a difference from that then anything else. | | You must be the change you want to see in the world ~Gandhi

Here's my story: I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia (among other things) almost 3 years ago. I tried all kinds of traditional western medicine approaches, but basically, I was told that I would just have to live with it for the rest of my life. I couldn't work (hadn't worked since Feb., 2004); I was too incapacitated. I had to go on disability. I got to the point where I was so frustrated at my inability to live life like a normal person (I frequently had to use a wheelchair) that I decided to end my life if I couldn't find a way to get better.
Then I found Dr. Wazny. I started seeing him last October. I have come so far that I am now ready to go back to work full-time. (I started working part-time in January of this year after only 3 months of being under his care.) He started me on a blood type diet (the name of the book is Eat Right 4 Your Type by Dr. Peter D'Adamo), as well as many natural supplements. I am off all my prescription medications except one, which is highly addictive and very difficult to stop. However, I am slowly weaning myself off that one. In addition, he told me to start water-walking for the fibromyalgia and gave me a stretching routine to do.
Dr. Wazny literally saved my life, and I will be forever grateful to him. But I did my part, too. I do everything that he tells me to do, and I follow my diet and take my meds religiously.
Dr. Wazny makes himself very available to his patients. We are in constant email contact, and he gave me his cell phone # and told me I could call him anytime. How many doctors are willing to do that? And he makes house calls! </div>
Blessings to you thuds! I was also diagnosed with fibro and cfids as well as adrenal insufficiency 10 years ago and was given the same outcome. Through my own research and keeping active I have been able to keep a somewhat normal life. Getting out of the stressful job I had and back into my true love (training) has helped. Make sure you take on a job that you enjoy! The stress of a job you don't like really has a terrible impact.
Dr. Wazny is very right on the stretching and water walking. It is a double edged sword. It hurts to exercise at first, but if you don't the muscles harden, become rigid and atrophy. Dr. and Christina Lambert at Alliance in the same office have been a tremendous help for me with my pain.
Kudos to you and Dr. Wazny. I know how long and hard the road to recovery is. Like you said, YOU did the work. There is nothing better then a knowledgeable doctor and a willing and hopeful patient!! Best of luck!

Alert | Wow. Just wow. That's so awesome. I'm soooooo happy you are feeling better.
I have been really struggling this week, and had it out with my primary care physician. This rotten fatigue has been going on for 2 years, and my PCP is useless, and refuses to look at my hormones. (I finally went to see Lori Allen at Mixtures.) Next step- see a recommended NP who specializes in hormones. That appt is in Sept, so in the meantime, I have to figure how how to get more energy. This week was rough, I have been EXHAUSED and pretty low.
I know its important to exercise. I am trying to eiher walk the dogs at night, or at least get on the ellipical machine for 30 min. Tonight, I cannot must up the energy.
-I drink lots of water. But, I do love my caffeine free diet coke. (Please, that's one of my only major vices I have always drank artifical sweetners, and never had this level of fatigue.) -I eat healthy- and watch my carbs and watch whole grains. -I'm a bit overweight (BMI= 26)- but I work hard to stick to a 1600 cal diet. -I don't smoke, (I quit a year ago, but god, I badly want one to stay awake.) -My job is not that stressful, and I love where I work - I'm a programmer. I don't know what else to do, but wait until my Sept. appt. This sucks.
Oh, and I saw Christina Lambert, but after 2 sessions, each session triggered a migraine, so we agreed to stop treatment. This sucks big rocks.

Oh that does suck the big one about the migraines!
I work with an HRT doc who is EXCELLENT! I have been on HRT on and off for a few years and just started back on, when I FINALLY found someone good. When I was off I felt just horrible. I had a terrible time with AZ docs prescribing a must hormone for me. And a lot of them just don't know what they are doing. The difference is night and day! I think you will do much better going through an NP then a standard medicine doc. Either way you should see a specialist in HRT for sure! Did Lori mention anything about adrenals at all?

Alert | This may sound a little out there....but it has helped me significantly. (It has even prevented surgery.) Look up some information on iodine supplementation. There is a book with alot of research/info in it as well as just using google.
http://www.holistic-physician.com/articles/iodine.htm
I had numerous symptoms (tired, some female issues, hair falling out, etc) that usually point you toward a thyroid disorder, but the "medical" test show everything as being "normal". Whatever! I was not "normal"! Anyway, I found a doctor that is a nautropathic/chiropractor, and he had me start taking an iodine supplement. At the same time I was having all of these issues, a surgeon was insisting on removing half of my thyroid because of a cyst that is benign. I was concerned - obviously - that this would just make my symptoms worse. The iodine is actually helping to shrink the cyst in my thyroid. My symptoms aren't noticable anymore, unless I run out of pills.....
The holistic-physician.com website is the Dr's website. He is in Chandler, and has a store in Gilbert. Right now he is not taking any new patients because of a recent office move, but he is extremely considerate and friendly. Emailing him with questions you may have is a good idea, he is great about getting back to you. Unlike many doctors, he doesn't mind actually helping people! GREAT FIND!!
Good luck, hope you find some relief!

I feel the need to address this just in case anyone would ever consider just blindly taking an iodine supplement.
It's not strange at all. Iodine deficiency can cause hypothyroidism, and even developmental brain disorders and severe goiter...but at the same time excess iodine can cause the same. The thyroid is very sensitive to iodine and it is not something to be taken lightly. Kelp and other seaweeds are a good source of iodine. I've always been on the fence on this topic as I tend to steer away from things that could possibly cause harm. Anyone considering that sort of treatment should absolutely do so only under the care of a doctor and proof of actual deficiency. Graves' Disease and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis are automimmune diseases and not related to iodine deficiency. It's very important to have all the necessary tests done before considering such treatment. Even in the alternative world there is still a lot of argument over this.
Just my 2 cents...But glad you have benefited so much! It sounds like you found someone to really help you. And avoiding surgery is always a plus!

Alert | Sorry....I should have mentioned that! Don't know what I didn't stress that, but obviously I have a great doc and had all the needed testing done. I re-test every 3 months and we adjust my dose accordingly. I just wanted to mention this because it helped me so much, and had I not stumble across this doctor I never would have heard of it. =) thanks for pointing out my lack of info/education MaricopaTrainer I would hate for someone to take it without Dr's advice.

Didn't mean to make it sound like you were uneducated. Sorry if that is how it came across. The info was more for people who don't know about that sort of therapy.

Alert | Shermanator, my best friend had a lot of the same symptoms have, plus he had some tingling and shaking in his arms and legs whenever he would hold things or stand for long periods of time. None of his doctors could figure out what was wrong either. Then he was referred to a neurologist who did an overnight sleep test and immediately afterwards diagnosed him with Sleep Apnea. Just incase you're not familiar with this condition let me explain. It's a sleep disorder characterized by pauses in breathing during sleep. These pauses cause shortages of oxygen to the brain and have a significant negative effect on the restorative quality of sleep. You can read more about it here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_apnea
He originally thought his fatigue was due to all the caffeine he consumed, but It turns, out Sleep Apnea was the cause of a lot of his problems. The doctor prescribe a special machine he has to use whenever he sleeps. A year later and he's doing great. None of the symptoms have returned.
I hope everything works out for you.
