Alert | | My husband just had a MRI of his knee, and was told by the Physical Therapist that he has a bone contusion. I know a contusion is a bruise, but on the bone? Yikes! He doesn't see his doctor for a couple weeks. Does anyone have any experience with this type of injury?

Alert | | Yes, I had one years ago on my breastbone when my horse threw me into a fence post. It hurts. BAD. And takes a LONG time to heal since bones have a poor source of blood circulation and don't grow as quickly as skin and muscle with a regular bruise. My doc described it to me not so much as what you think of as a bruise - but a series of microfractures.

Alert | | Thanks Fritztdoodle. That makes sense why it would take longer to heal. He meets with the doc in a week or so and is scheduled for physical therapy. I sure hope it doesn't take too long to heal. lol

Alert | | I actually have one right now on my knuckle from sparring. It does hurt quite a bit and has been over a week now. Still can't bend it all the way without really bad pain. Dr. actually put a cast on it.

Alert | Turns out that nothing is cracked, fractured or broken - just bruised. Doc ended up giving him a cortisone shot, so he can still work. He will just be going to physical therapy to help get his knee in shape since he has been, well, babying it. Sorry to hear about that Irshboy. I hope you get to feeling better real soon.
