Alert | I am starting to get into scrapbooking. went to a joann and michaels and hobby lobby yesterday and got a ton of stuff to do various scrapbooks with.
but was wondering, are there any stores that would be recommended to go to? are there any stores that maybe are devoted to scrapbooking? seems the chain stores all had just about the same things, except, different sales and prices. thought maybe there would be other stores to check out.
thanks! | | | |

Alert | Where are they opening a new store? Went into the store, everything was 20% off, but one of the customers and one of the check out girls were talking about how the company is simply going out of business. Apparently, they are owned my Michaels and they decided to close all of their Recollections stores, which, of course happens. now that I discovered a great store, it's closing!
I think I have everything I need to start scrapbooking. Got some albums, paper, stickers, decorative scissors for cutting, tape, and hundreds and hundreds of pictures. Is there anything else I need or should plan to get?

Alert | | They are owned by michaels - michaels is closing them to put more emphasis on the actual michaels stores. They are opening a new place called paper vineyard and they already have a website where you can sign up for updates n such http://www.papervineyard.com/ I forget what they said the crossroads were gonna be - I think it was Alma School n something? I don't remember.

Alert | Oh, did not hear them say the new store, so that is exciting, that at least they will still be in business at least under a different name.
I can't believe how addicting this already has become for me and it's only day 2! Im currently working on a book for our dog...it's fun picking out the pictures and making it look great. I realize, my books won't look as good as others who've done this forever, but, at least im having fun!
I love shopping for the stickers the most though, makes me feel like im in 3rd grade again when all my classmates and i collected stickers. hobby lobby is also an awesome store, but too bad they are in avondale. they had a great selection yesterday. I also like joann's, but michael's, didn't really see much there.
i already have in my head about 5 different scrapbooks i want to create. im sure i'll think of more as the time goes on. but it's funny, took me an hour tonight and i only did 2 pictures! I am soooo happy i discovered this hobby.

Alert | | Oh...forgot to ask, what is cropping? Is that simply cutting the photo or paper, or is there more to it? I keep reading that term, but nothing really explains it.

Alert | It's basically cutting off the unwanted part of the picture (or paper or whatever) for whatever reason (to make it fit, a shape, anything)

Alert | Paper Vineyard is supposed to open the middle of January. It is on Alma School between Ray and Chandler (near Galveston I believe). It is being opened by one of the Recollections employees. It is a different store, not the same store under a different name.
As for my latest "must have" - it is the Cricut. I am so excited that I got one and several cartridges for Christmas! I am also addicted to Close to My Heart materials/supplies...

Alert | Did you get a good paper cutter? That is so vital! Stamps are my favorite because you can use them again and again and make them look different every time! I like some of the Creative memories tools, but I sell (for product not money) Close to my heart and I can never get enough! There is a big cirlce cutter at Target that I want really bad, I am really into big circles right now.
What other tools is everyone pining for?

Alert | I don't have a paper cutter, but I do have scissors in various designs and a ruler. Should I also look at getting a paper cutter?
What exactly is Zyron? Went to Joanns yesterday and some woman was buying 6 of them, I couldn't exactly see what they were, other than their name, cause she was in the way! She was on her phone, saying they were on sale. I'm not sure if she got different ones or if she got the same one over and over again. Maybe they are going to be gifts.
We went to Scrapbook Barn yesterday, what a great store! We found it by accident. We were out and about, yesterday was just a weird day for us, nothing really to do, yet we wanted to be out somewhere. I found stickers that I have never found anywhere else, so I was happy.
I did want to let you know, Recollections is now, as of Saturday at 30% off all things. I asked one of the girls when they were closing, she said, she was told around Jan 26th, if not sooner. I'm going to guess, that if they do sell out all their stuff, they'll be done before the 26th, otherwise, it's the 26th. They seem to be running out of stuff. They still do have a selection, but some things are sold out and other themes are still plenty.
I can't believe how addicting scrapbooking can be!

Alert | Xyron is a sticker machine. The lady was probably buying refill cartridges. I have two - a small and a medium one. You can run paper or pictures, or anything really, through it and it puts a sticky back to it. You can buy repositional or permanent. It's probably not something you would need right away. You will probably want a paper cutter though. One that can cut 12x12 if you are doing that large. I recommend fiskars rotary trimmer similar to this one: Fiskars Trimmer
I want more accessories for my Cricut. I would also like to try a stapler/fastenater. And I still want a printer large enough to print on 12x12 paper....there's always something new to want!
Here are some pages I have made: Bath page
What are little boys made of page 1
What are little boys made of page 2
I like using the Creative Sketches books for layout ideas. Vol 1
Vol 2
Have fun scrapping! I just finished re-organizing my space...hopefully I can some more pages done.

Alert | When I started scrapbooking, I did much like what it sounds like you are doing. Going to stores, seeing all the goodies and loading up. I spent a fortune!
As I got more into it, I realized that I wasted a ton of money buying things that way. Now, I don't buy supplies until I have a purpose for them. I have rubbermaid totes OVERFLOWING with all those cool elements that I bought back at the beginning. Yep, the watermelon stickers were so lifelike and adorable, but I have never, ever had a use for them. LOL.
When I first started, the fancy design scissors and punches were popular and I bought a bunch of those. I haven't used them in probably 3 years at this point. My kids use them more now!
The only stuff I buy in advance of a particular page/project would be things like adheasive, refill cutting blades for my straight cutter, basic color cardstock, or sheet protectors, etc.
Scrapbooks ETC has a 'page of the week' kit that they offer each Monday. They have predesigned the page and put all the stuff you need in a little package, usually from $3-$5. I always check them out, buy if I really like it. But I have gotten a TON of new ideas, techniques from those pages. I like to tell beginners about them, because even as someone who has been doing this awhile, I learn a bunch.
Most of all, have fun!

Alert | Hi everyone - I am a scrapbooker myself for a couple of years or so now. Love it - There is a scrapbook convention this year in April 18,19 in Mesa, also another in Phx Sept 12,13. You can find information on creatingkeepsakes.com site. I go because I can find things that arn't in stores. Also last y ear I went to the Cku creaking keepsakes university in Nashville with my daughter. It is a three day, all day scrapbooking hands on. It is about 325.00 for the three days, but you sign up for the classes and they teach you about new scrapping things and ideas. Check it out -- Anyway, I want to get a cricut for my daughter, been looking on ebay. They are not cheap, but I hear they are the bomb--- I missed the rummage sale in July of scrappers left overs to sell. Maybe there will be another one soon. Thanks for listening ---

Alert | Hi, An eyelet is a circle with a hole in it attached to another back piece. You need the hand tool to put them together. Similar looking to a gromet on curtains - Lots of scrappers like them, I don't use them, but to each his own. Just look at them the next time you go to the scrap store. I did not make it to the store closing yet of recollections = Maybe this weekend
