This might sound odd, but I need to create a centerpiece with 80's board games. Any suggestions on what board games were big in the 80's? Also, any ideas on how to actually create a centerpiece with them?

Here's my list in no particular order:

Sorry
Trouble
Boggle
Candyland
Chutes & Ladders
Life
Clue

No idea how to make a centerpiece with them. One idea, kinda costly, is get all the pieces to these games and attach them somehow to a real centerpiece. Just have them kinda hanging off of it, and maybe stick some of the cards from each throughout the centerpiece...dunno..G/L.

Tami,

This sounds like fun. First thing, what is the function and how big does the center piece need to be?

Does it need to be games that were introduced in the 80's or can it be classic games. Children or adult age games?

I think these are games that were in the 80's.

Trivial Pursuit, Rubic's Cube, Hungry Hungry Hippo, Connect 4,

Of course there is Monopoly, Clue, Checkers, Operation, Battleship, Uno that are still being played today.

Then there are the arcade games, Pac man, Centipede, Pong, Frogger.

I have some ideas on how to make some of these for a table decoration.

Take a picture and post it here when you have the piece finished, we, well I, would love to see what you come up with.

Thanks for the game suggestions. They don't necessarily need to be introduced in the 80's but just really popular. They can be children's or adult games.

we are having a generations themed party for work and each table will have a centerpiece to represent a different decade. This specific centerpiece will include 80's boardgames and candy. It needs to be big enough that it is noticeable and needs to have some height. At the end of the party each centerpiece will be raffled off, so it needs to be something that someone can actually take home.

I can spend from $50-$70 to create it.

I've been trying to think of ways to possible build things out of the games, but I haven't figured it out yet.

I'd love to hear your ideas.

Okay, I will have to think on how to incorporate several games into one table decoration.

How skilled are you at making cakes or candies?

I am thinking a totem pole or tree (cake or preztels) with pieces of games (real or edible) attached, or how about a fish pond (Go Fish) with various game pieces in the water.

Or how about an interactive decoration, a mystery box that has pieces (real or edible) that each guest has to decide what game it is from? You can also make up question cards regarding each game you are featuring, kind of like Jeapordy to place around on the table or in the middle like a bouquet to take from for conversation. Example what game uses tweezers and has a buzzer? Operation. Silly questions like that. Can be games that aren't displayed on the table.

There is a cookie company (I think it is Cookies in Bloom) that arranges cookies on a stick in various shapes. Most of the time the cookies are the best. This might be the easiest especially if you can make and decorate your own cookies, then you can make each cookie look like the box of the game, or pieces of the game. You can have a cookie for each person at the table to take when they leave.

Ohh, now I want you to hurry up and make something so I can see what you came up with. I love to see finished projects.

Find someone that is willing to part with a Commodore 64!!! Print a picture of one of the old C64 games and tape it to the monitor!!

Or get pictures of the old video games and make boxes of them to look like the boxes the games came in and stack them kinda haphazardly.

The red head is BACK!! (and still mouthy)

Another thought. How about taking the various boards (Monopoly, Clue, Go to the head of the class, etc) and build a house. Kind of like you would do with cards. you could shingle the roof with the money or question cards, then decorate the eaves with the playing pieces, kind of like Christmas decorations. Glue some of the pieces together to make the trees, flowers, shutters, things like that.

The thrift stores might have games at a lower cost.

I think this is so fun, then again, I am not the one who has to do the work.
