Alert | The movie "meatballs" ran on Showtime last week. I forgot how cute Bill Murray used to be, and how generous a PG rating once was!
Are you ready for the summer...
Between that movie and "Little Darlings", it's amazing that camps acros the country didn't close.
Did you go to summer camp? Any interesting stories? | | Poster formerly known as Sassafrass.

Alert | I went to the Concordia Language Villages in Moorehead Minnesota. You choose what kind of language you want to learn (they have EVERYTHING) and then your camp is fitted into that culture. Upon entry, you have to exchange your money for their currency. I went to the Norweigan camp, and at the stores there you could only buy Norweigan candy, drinks, and you had to speak in Norweigan.
The only story I have is that one of the girls in my cabin was a total pain. If you did anything wrong, she was the first one to the counselors to sell you out. Finally people got sick of it and took her training bras out of her suitcase and distributed them throughout the camp, after writing her name on all of them. It wasn't that bad, but considering that we were at a freakin language camp, I guess that was about as good as it could get!
And no, I dont speak a lick of Norweigan. Money well spent, right?

Alert | | went to horseback riding camp while in grammer school and adored every minute of it. then i hit junior high age and got fat. spent the next 2 summers at weight loss camp. not nearly so much fun, although it was cool being one of the smallest kids there. i was still wearing size 14, as opposed to most of the girls who already had to shop at lane bryant stores. after that i gave up on camp.

I went to Camp Kiwanilong 4 summers running. It is located on the Oregon Coast and by far the best summer experiences I ever had. All of the normal camp activities went on like canoeing on Kiwanilong Lake, swimming, hiking, archery, arts and crafts, nature classes, campfires and sing-a-longs. I only went to school those years so I could go to summer camp.
We used to get colored beads for different activities. For example you would get a yellow bead for a bull’s eye on the archery range and then you could hang those beads on your nametag. The bead thing was a big deal and they would make a special ceremony of it at night before dinner. I never got very many beads (LOL) but I did get one yellow bead (It was a fluke) and the night they called me up for my bead I stood up from the table so fast my char fell over and caught the camps favorite consoler on the knee causing him to have to get stitches. I was ostracized the rest of the week. Next year no one remembered.

Alert | Sure did, I met my long lost twin sister there, and we realized that we have the same mum and dad. We got 'em back together...
Okay maybe not, but I did go to camp for the National Honor Society in high school... my mom was asked to pick me up at 1 in the morning and for some reason I wasn't part of the honor society anymore... =)
Another interesting camp story would be mascot camp. Yes, they have mascot camps and I was a bulldog... Anywho while practicing a skit one of the other mascots (the longhorn) fell on me and knocked my knee cap out of place. The camp counselor took me into town to an urgent care clinic and then we went to Chili's for lunch. | | ~*~ Friends are God's way of apologizing to us for our families. ~*~

Alert | I was kicked out of art camp. Some kids got into trouble and because I was the most outspoken, I was labeled the leader and booted.
I went to a Y camp where the adults had us perform "Greased Lightning". Do you know how rude that song is??
I attended a very nice camp one year that had horsebackriding, an Olympic pool, a huge cafeteria, etc. I just sat under a tree and ate green apples for two weeks, reading a book or playing Miss Mary Mack with whoever wanted to. Took me 20 years to tell my mom that I never got on a horse. | | Poster formerly known as Sassafrass.

Alert | I went to a girl scout camp called Camp Birdseledee. I think my sister and I were sent there for punishment. Everyday we had a choice between a Polar Swim (6am swim time in freezing cold pool) or polar run (6am run time in shorts and t-shirt). It was horrible!
One of the counslers told me that I gave a tree frog brain damage when I accidently dropped it. What a bunch of warm and caring individuals!

Alert | I also went to girl scout camp on the beautiful Oregon coast...called Camp Cleawox. I remember getting up at 6 am for "polar bear" swimming on the lake. There were two sections for swimming, and to be able to swim in the second section you had to pass a "swim test." That was pretty cool.
I also went to a Christian Camp on Dorena lake, that was sooo much fun. I remember singing a song when kids got caught with their elbows on the table....and then they had to go run around the "mess hall"
I'm a dork....I LOVE camp songs, and stuff like that.... what was your favortie camp song? mine was one called "bam boom" where you had to call down your friends to sing with you. | | Formerly DRich

Alert | | I went to at least 2 different summer camps every summer from 2nd grade through 6th grade. I was gone for at least 5-6 weeks each summer at camp, sometimes longer, between the camps. I LOVED going to camp - it was the best part of the year. There was one camp that I went to every summer for 3-6 weeks, then the second camp would vary. All of the camps that I went to were tons of fun with all sorts of things to do.
