I personally would love to do a few surgical procedures on him without putting him under. Life is just not fair! Love your suggestion though, don't think it is worth it purchasing the lawn seed.

We are contemplating moving to RED, but DH drives a company vehicle and parks it in the driveway.....is there some stupid rule against company vehicles being parked in front of your home? And I agree....your neighbor is a prick.

There is usually one in every neighborhood. We don't live in Rancho but my DH has a company truck and trailer that he constantly brings home and parks on the street. I keep waiting for the day someone complains but its been over a year now and no complaints. People have to work to pay the bills, sad that others don't understand that.

I just moved to Rancho and already have neighbors turning me in for stuff in my yard. We are having a pool installed and there was no room behind the rv gate for the trash cans. I get a nice note taped on the trash cans: Welcome to the neighborhood, and by the way, your trash cans need to be moved. I complied and moved them. Two days later I get two letters from the association with pictures of my trash cans (that have been moved) and the baby pool of which the pool company put excess cement in that they have assured me they will remove. Not sure about this neighborhood......

You know it is basically a great neighborhood to live in. You know what I see the problem is? I think the people the turn others in had problems in school and were little snot nosed tattle tales to get attention. They were never liked in school and probably not liked now so they have no life except to disrupt the people that are basically good and happy. Turmoil turns them on. These are the same people that stick their noses in trying to make the world a better place and look what happens? They think they know what's best for everyone not realizing that their sick little world is making it worse for us and our children. Look at the mess we are in. They are probably the ones who do not control their children, go to school and because their little "Johnny" got sent home with a note has a showdown with the childs teacher that their Johnny does nothing wrong it must be the teachers fault. They pat him on the head and said they took care of little Johnny's problem and he grows up doing drugs or joining a gang while the parents look the opposite way so they have time to blame their neighbors because they have a truck parked out front for a few hours or condemn another neighbor who is trying to put in a pool. I was just getting use to losing my son and now I am all wound up again for that jerk upsetting my world. I can only hope that his air conditioner breaks down on the next 120 degree day and has no pool because he had to pay for "little Johnny's" bail!!!

I think that might be reading into things a little. People rat on one another because the atmosphere that is created in developments that have HOAs facilitates the passive-aggression. It also doesn't help that we have walls around our properties. Growing up in New York, my dad and our surrounding neighbors split the cost for a three-foot high chain link fence. We would go from waving to the neighbors when we were outside, to chatting over the fence, and inviting each other over for BBQs and a swim in the pool. Around here, you never know if your neighbor is in the backyard, and you look like a snoop if you try to catch a glimpse over the wall. This just makes it difficult to get to know your neighbors, and when neighbors are strangers, it's easier to have little patience with any deviance from the norms and easier to perceive that your neighbor is somehow insulting you by keeping his garbage can out past the 24-hour limit.

Thanks for the encouragement. I was beginning to think I was plagued by the neighborhood already. I am from the midwest, and like you, no one had walls between properties. If you chose to look out your window and see what the neighbor was doing, no one ever seemed to care. Good neighbors can be a great asset to you...so just remember that when you are turning someone in for a trash can not put away or if your house is burning down and no one is home to get your dog out......it might come back to bite you!!

Not sure where in RED all this is going down but what a scary leap from trash cans to letting someones pet burn to death.... It sounds like a few people in that area might have had issues with the trash cans.

I'm from the Midwest also, and I have been in a HOA before and there was many problems there too but people banned together and we fought some things the association did. I think the biggest problem is that people don't attend the meetings which we always did back home. The problem is the association votes in things that the people in the association have no say in, it's always their cronies who gets the bids for the services whether they are low big or not such as the garbage in this area. I have been having out of town company lately and no place for them to park. Luckily I have had neighbors who let us use their driveways. They don't give solutions, it's like: "Those are the rules and you have to obey but we will not give you a solution to your problem". It just makes me sick, if they would do something for the people that are paying their association fees would at least solve some of our problems.
