Does anyone know if it is allowable to have a second floor built onto your house in Rancho?  We love our house, but may outgrow it in the near future.  Building a second floor would solve that problem for awhile.

Thanks

On Rio Lobo Drive, there is a house that added an extension to the back of the house. I was so surprised to see this, as folks around here typically just pack up and move.

I would check with the CCRs, but I think that as long as you submit an architectural plan to the association, and they approve it, you should be able to add an extension (which is my dream, as I already have a two-story house but need just a little bit more room) or a dormer, as we call a second story addition.

Check it out and good luck!

I watched the progress of that addition from my trampoline! They seemed to do all the work on the weekends so I kind of got the feeling that maybe they didn't bother with the HOA. Either way, they got it finished super fast and always cleaned up the front yard scraps by Monday so I was happy for them. It looks great and you can't even tell it's an addition. I wish I had as many 'handy' friends or family members as they seemed to have working with them.

You should go talk to them about it. Maybe some of their friends could use the work.

Could someone really do that? Do you think that they didn't contact the HOA? I thought it was more like friends and/or relatives helped out, and the weekends were the only times to do it. That was how my parents put up a "dormer" as we call em back East, when I was a kid. I remember the permit taped to the front door.
