I don't know about the other schools in Maricopa but it really seems that there are NO involved parents at Santa Cruz. Sure maybe there are a few but with over 800 students I would hope that there would be more parents helping. I thought that with it being a brand new school many parents would want to help out for their children and their community.

Interesting..........

Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem.

I'm on PTO and we are open for any one to help. You can go to the school web site or our pto web site to find more information

That was really negative. I'm sorry, true but still.

One thing that we tried at my kids first school was at all events we had a PTO table that let the parents know what the PTO was all about, how they could get involved and a sign up sheet.

Good luck!

There are a lot of people signed up and "willingly" to help. But when it comes down to it, no one ever shows up to help.

I contacted the PTO about being involved, and am still interested, but I cannot attend mtgs or really do much with events. . . I can help from home with paperwork, typing, catagorizing, etc. The rest of it is really difficult for me because I have 4 kids and one of them is autistic and being in public can be difficult when I am by myself. My DH doesn't get home in time for me to attend mtgs, and when we attempt school activities (which we DO) as a family it takes both of us to contain our kids.

I e-mailed someone a couple of times about helping, but no one ever got back to me about what was needed.

I do get a sitter every month and go in and help the teacher(s) in the classroom. I also will do things at home for the teachers.

That said, I have noticed there are not many that seem to help, and I have wondered if it is because they are working or have no one to watch children. I'd be more than willing to watch kids while others went to mtgs, etc - that could be my involvement!

I am very involved in my son's clossroom. I work for a police department in the valley and find it very hard to swallow that they will not allow me to volunteer without paying the $65.00 for DPS to do a background check. I went through all that when I applied for my job with my current employer and don't feel I should have to pay more to volunteer. That being said, again I am very active in my son's class by doing various projects for his teacher at home. I have even volunteered with a couple of projects with the PTO.
