richtig must have forgotten what its like to be a teen or he/she doesnt have any teen aged kids cuz they are rebellious by nature and so dont know how a parent is supposed to regulate that when its instinctive at that age.

i dont know why a jr high campus made up on portables is an acceptable campus? i guess some parents think its all about the curriculum, but for me a school has to be measured in curriculum, amenities&activities. LTS achieves the curriculum part but falls short on the other 2. cant believe i am the only one who feels this way, bet other parents are pulling their kids too. btw guess i was wrong, there will be 4, yes 4 schools getting out at the same time all trying to use honeycutt to get to JWP. butterfield, santa cruz, LTS (continental) and LTS jr high/k-5. speaking of which, why are the 2 campuses not equal as far as amenities and quality of construction goes? not acceptable imo

I picked up my kids early today and in their folders is a letter that explains a lot more to what you just brought up "rikimaru". From what the letter says it doesn't look like the current campus will have any less "amenities & activities" than the new campus. I think the only difference will be that the new campus will have everything under one roof and the existing one will not. And as far as all of these schools getting out at the same time, that needs to addressed to the city and the city needs to let the schools what to do about that. Right now Legacy gets out 10 minutes later than Santa Rosa and Pima Butte. I know that doesn't sound like much but maybe if Legacy and/or the MUSD schools adjust their schedules by 5-10 minutes then it wont be such a big deal. Also I know that the Legacy Jr high will be getting out later than the rest of the grades , because I asked the principal at their booth at the Salsa Festival since I will have a Jr high student next year.

Here comes the 'kids will be kids' justification for not setting rules/boundaries for your kids.

Kids need parents, they have enough buddies.

yep just as i suspected, RT is not even a parent. you set boundaries and rules for your teens, but realize they are going to be rebellious, you have to be their parent not their friend like you mentioned.

btw anyone go to the groundbreaking today? curious how it went. ok so come on, how ridiculous is it to have to pay for a dress down day on friday? heck i would have paid every month every day to have had a dress down day, save me some $$$ and time. but thats neither here nor there i suppose. a

Yes, I went to the groundbreaking today, and it was a lot of fun for the kids, while being a nice deal for the parents, too.  After all the officials broke ground, they let any kid who wanted to do it also, letting them feel they helped "build" their new school.

And rikimaru, you have to realize that the "dress down" day scheduled for this Friday is supposed to be a fun fundraiser for the kids, not set a precedent for being able to go without uniforms.   You remember, FUN, the thing you said none of the kids at this school get to have?

Hope you enjoy your new lesser education for your kids next year, but please, please, stop slamming our school that a lot of people are trying to make the best in the area.

Forgot to add, CaliGurl, they let us know today at the groundbreaking that school at Legacy is supposed to begin August 25th, I believe (may have been the 18th, lots was going on).  So we should be able to have a nice full school year starting on time!

Looking very forward to it for me and my children!

by lesser education, you mean a reasonable amount of homework oh and better amenities/activities/reputation/excelling status/kids not looking like carbon copies of each other with their red, white&blue polos vs LTS? oh ok well then yes i appreciate your support. i am not slamming them on purpose, guess more venting my frustrations with LTS is all. i will admit the adm&staff have made what started as a mess, into a successful yr so i have to give them some credit.

glad the groundbreaking went off without a hitch, if the august 25th date holds for both locations that is a real boon to having the following summer break start&end on time. btw i really do feel bad for making you stoop to foolish banter which i admit i started. it was uncalled for and i apologize to everyone.   oops this was done under another username when it should go to rikimaru.

LOL, wondered who you were for a minute there, Misery-Rikimaru!  And actually by lesser education, I just meant less being taught.  My daughters and most of the other children that I have spent time with at the school seem to be handling the caseload well.

And Legacy is getting their better amenities set up with the new school being built and will have sports and activities for the students, as was outlined in a letter sent home to parents today.  I don't mind my kids being put into uniforms, and that is what MUSD does also, albeit not in the older grades.

As to reputation and excelling status as schools, you are kidding about that here in Maricopa right? Definitely NOT excelling or having any good reputation that I have seen from anywhere, and I have done research online for this.  If you can find something to refute this, please let me know.

But enough, these are our personal opinions, and I harbor no resentment toward you at all, just don't want others to think that this school is run as a dictatorship, with kids being flogged with homework and having no time for fun and social interaction.  There are some that do well with the curriculum and some that don't, and I respect everyone's right to make their own decisions for their families.

thank you. btw my kids are going to KSD, not MUSD next yr not that i necessarily have anything against MUSD per se. now let me ask you this: how do u feel having a dual decision making team vs a school super, principals, school board etc where parents do have at least some say as to policy vs LTS where its really a "my way or the highway" approach? i think that kinda sullied LTS a little for me as well. i think the regular class work load is fine, the homework is what i dont care for especially at the Kinder level. i want to check out that continental campus when its complete, just to see how it ended up. i imagine it will look great since its been in the P&D stage for going on 2 yrs now?

I actually like having to deal with only two people instead of a whole administration. I've never felt like it's their way or nothing either. I am in there a lot and I always ask questions. I've given suggestions, and guess what, they listen to me!
I put my kids at Legacy to expand their minds cause last year at Santa Cruz my youngest struggled. With that being said, of course I want them to have fun and they do have a lot of fun! They come home everyday and have new and fun things to share. My 1st grader can get his homework done in 30min and that includes the 15min of reading time. If the homework load is too much for your kindergartner, then why haven't you talked to the teacher or principal about it? I much prefer this than what my kindergartner brought home last year from Santa Cruz, which was nothing! No homework ever. It was very frustrating cause he was struggling and never brought home anything. I had to find things on my own to work with him on. I like that he brings something home to work on everyday and no he's not overloaded. My 3rd grader doesn't even bring home a lot either. Math and spelling and reading. Again, 30min for him to finish. Every 6 weeks he brings home a book report to do, but that is really easy for him.
Legacy may not be for everyone, but we love it! I'm excited for the new campus. Obviously some of us disagree about this school, but why can't you stop being so negative about it? I thought the $1 dress down day was a great idea! It was only $1 and it was for a FUNDRAISER. I like to help out when they raise funds whenever I can. And yes I do think they can pull off two campuses. I've heard about the plans they have for the Junior High and it sounds awesome. They are adding more buildings and having the Jr. High kids separated from the younger kids. We are going to the new building and my kids are looking forward to it.

I forgot to share my 1st graders field trip experience. The 1st graders went to the Science Museum in Phoenix last Thursday. I went along with my son and we all had a great time. We even went on a bus, imagine that! My son had so much fun that he told my husband all about it when he got home from work. He had a lot to share. So, yes they do field trips. My 3rd grader is going to Shamrock farms at the end of the month.
I must say that after riding that bus, I am so glad that my kids don't ride it every day all the way to Kyrene. There are no seat belts and the kids literally bounce up and down when the road is a little bumpy. I would be afraid of them riding on the 347 speedway of death everyday to go to school. That is why I went with my son so I could be on the bus with him. My brother was killed in a car accident years ago, so I guess I'm a little protective with things like that. I'm so glad we have another school option here in Maricopa. I really want Legacy to succeed. My whole family is so pleased with it. I'm excited they are having a Jr. High next year. My kids will just stay there through 8th grade. Now I can hope that they open up a high school.

Oh my goodness, that field trip was crazy. My child also liked it and I was on the bus as well. But, the site was complete chaos and I am not sure that Jr. Highers should have been there with elementary school kids. My child had a great time and loved the bus ride, but I don't think we will be going back to the science center any time soon.

My child will also be going to shamrock farms in a few week. I suspect this trip will be much slower and quieter than the science center.

You will probably take my comment about the science center as a complaint against the school. It is not. The school was fine. the science center could have better organized the groups and the experience would have been better.

I totally agree about the Science center. I know it's not a complaint against the school at all. I agree that Jr. Highers shouldn't have been there at the same time. The Science center personnel needs to organize them better so that not so many kids are there at the same time. It was fun though! What teacher were you there with and what teacher will you be there with for Shamrock farms?

I let my daughter go on the field trip, and I was a nervous wreck while she was gone. She came home to an entirely clean house. She has also been talking about it nonstop, and wants me to take her and her sisters in the summer, which we will probably do.

My oldest is looking forward to the shamrock farms. They sure are excited about their field trips. I am glad that all the kids are enjoying them!

The 1st graders went to the science center. I don't think the kindergarteners have a field trip. I know the 3rd graders have one upcoming. and I think some of the higher grades have already had one.

I know the 5th graders went to that Airfield in Mesa about two weeks ago. The 6th grade went to the Science Center Last week for the Titanic Exhibit and the 1st graders went to The Science Center the day after that. I haven't heard about the 4th grade though.

It's up to the teachers to arrange field trips. There are 5 kinder classes. Maybe they think that's too many to take somewhere all at once? I'm not sure. Talk to the teachers. My son was in kinder last year at Santa Cruz and the only field trip they arranged was to Pacana Park. It wasn't too exciting cause we can go there anytime but maybe that is all the teachers were able to do. Last year my 2nd grader at Santa Cruz didn't go on one at all. Depends on the teachers. The 1st grade one at Legacy last week was fun but my son's teacher said that next year when they go back to the Science Museum, she's going to arrange it with the museum to go on a day when not that many other field trips are going on. The museum was busy that day but it was still fun! Karen, I could have called you when we arrived safely at the museum so that you didn't have to worry all day. I can do that for Shamrock farms if you want. I think your daughter is in my son's class. I think I know who you are but I'm not for certain.

just my .02 but in Calif it was hard for Kinder's to go on fieldtrips due to the adult ratio needed to "keep them in line" dont know if this is the case or issue here

Ok I will go back to "reading" in this topic...

fair enough i suppose, dont buy into the whole "well its up to the teachers" blah blah blah. like everything else, it comes from the top down. if the admin wanted kinders to go on a field trip they would, Santa Rosa kinders went to the zoo last yr so where there is a will there is a way....
