Alert | | OK...here it goes. My son loves it at Legacy. Sure it is a bit more rigid than that of the MUSD schools, but for him that is what he needs. He went to Santa Cruz for 5th grade and was failing just about every class. He even had an active IEP, that the teacher ignored!! Now that he is at Legacy he is thriving and getting all A's and B's, he is excited to go to school and is actually learning. If one wants a more detailed and intense structure for their child then Legacy is the answer, if not, well then there are the schools from MUSD.

I'm pretty sure kids that go to Legacy, and excel, get to have fun and enjoy their childhood too.

Alert | @regan, i hardly call an accelerated curriculum "structure". all it is is pushing them faster down the very same road they would have gone down at MUSD,KSD or any other district, just at a faster pace although i am not sure why thats necessary. glad to hear your child is doing well at LTS, again the school is fine for SOME families and not fine for others is all i'm saying.
as far as kids enjoying school, maybe they should ammend the advanced curriculum to grades 5-8, maybe they are suited for that kind of work load vs younger students.
and yeah it has worked for the kids in japan, not like they are obsessed with success&treat failure as a possible cause for suicide. yeah that couldnt be contributed with their obsession with pushing their kids at a very unreasonable level at a very young age **rolls eys** | | listened for, they cannot be heard;looked for, they cannot be seen; felt for, they cannot be touched: old ninja proverb

That's ridiculous, rikimaru. I've talked to a few children from that school and the only ones complaining are the parents. To say that children will have no childhood because of homework, is just a bit too extreme. There are plenty of other reasons school can suck. | | <--- Say his name anyway way you want, but it's pronounced(nov 08) Mr. President.

Alert | | i wonder if they are not biting off more than they can chew with 2 schools one being a brand new campus, a new food service company supplying lunches for 2 schools is pushing it imo. also financial resources it will take 2 make them both run the way they are supposed to is going to be quite a bit each month, not just operating costs but costs involved with paying back the $$$$ that goes into ventures such as LTS. having 2 pay salaries for 2 schools is going to be costly i imagine. lets see if LTS can pull it off......... | | listened for, they cannot be heard;looked for, they cannot be seen; felt for, they cannot be touched: old ninja proverb

Alert | @rikamaru, I can understand you being disillusioned with Legacy, and you have a right to that opinion. However, everything is not bad and over-the-top academically there either. I have a kindergartner and a 4th-grader who have been attending Legacy since it opened. My younger child is in Ms. Merritt's class (previously Mrs. Eldridge's), and from everyone who I have spoken with, has the most homework out of all the kindergarten classes. She absolutely loves school, is excelling, and has no problem whatsoever with the amount of homework she is being given. Granted there are times it is a little rough on me, helping with her homework and her older sibling's, but it is not tough on her at all. She loves it! My older child has an IEP which I was continually told would be addressed last year at Alterra Elementary, and never was. She has had all the personalized attention I could possibly ask for here at Legacy, and it has helped her immeasurably. I am sorry that LTS is not a correct fit for your particular needs, but do not make it sound like none of the children are allowed to have any fun and enjoyment while attending there. This is simply an untruth. And yes, there will be further challenges for Legacy in the upcoming year, with opening the permanent site (the groundbreaking is on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 29th, btw), hiring a new catering company, and dealing with two school sites at one time. I for one am very ready to volunteer my time and energy in helping to better my school, if it means a better education for my children, which I definitely feel Legacy offers my children.

Alert | If kids are "dumb" I think it's the parents fault. Teachers can't go home with kids to make sure they care about learning what has been presented to them.
My opinion on pushing kids to advanced learning too soon is mixed. When I was in junior high I started on the advanced or honors learning track. So I started Algebra earlier than most. What that meant was that I had to keep going to the next math level each year...which meant that I spent a lot of time struggling through Trig/Calculus in high school while many of my peers were just getting to Algebra 2 or Geometry. I regret being so bogged down with homework and so stressed out all the time while they were out having fun because their homework was easy! I know it's good to push your child to reach their full potential, but you have to continually observe to make sure you don't push them over a certain line to where they will just hate school. Alert | | MissPolitick an IEP stands for Individual Education Plan. I am not sure of the exact definition but when kids are struggling with their school work and have been tested they are given IEP based on what area they are struggling and they receive extra help from a special education teacher. Also did everyone receive the notice about Legacy breaking ground today 4pm at their new campus?

Alert | My children attend Legacy Traditional School, we are happy with their progress. We are excited that there will be 2 campuses and that Jr.High is being offered. Yes there will be student council and sports for grades 6-8th. Every school will have its ups and downs and challenges. Hopefully for parents who have bussed their kids to another school district will look into Legacy(if it fits their needs) so that we can support schools here in Maricopa.

Alert | one thing that is kinda funny to me, is telling already rebellous teens that they have to now wear polos&khackis to school like an elementary student. that will go over real well the thing about sports, is that when u have a cap on students like LTS does, that limits the amount of kids that might want to play sports. at MUSD and KSD for example, because there is no cap on the kids in a school the pool of kids who want to play organized sports is much larger. just a random thought, i think its great LTS kids will get a chance to play sports though | | listened for, they cannot be heard;looked for, they cannot be seen; felt for, they cannot be touched: old ninja proverb

Alert | | I have a couple of questions for parents of Legacy? When does the 2008-2009 school year start? I keep checking the website and it is not updated. Also, when is the start time, I read something about the jr high students needing uniforms as well. Something tells me, I need to go to the school and get some questions answered. Any help on these brief questions would be great. Thanks. Also, is there going to be a kinder orientation, or a new student orientation in general? | | "Being defeated is often a temporary condition. Alert | | Kinda funny about legacy. Not a peep out of them for most of the school about the status of the new campus. But, just a few short days after the city wrote the 1.9 million dollar check out, bam new school. Makes you wonder what would have happened if the city never would have gave them the money, would they be having this ground breaking event. Ummm..
