Alert | | Both my younger kids go to Legacy and we're very happy there. My son is early-K, and he's now beginning to read. He has come a loooong way in the last few months. It's true that the students there are pushed a little harder, but with great results. | | "By working faithfully eight hours a day, you may eventually get to be boss and work 12 hours a day." - Anonymous

Alert | Both of my kids go to Legacy, and we LOVE it! I have a 1st and a 3rd grader. They went to Santa Cruz last year, and I can tell a HUGE difference with them this year academically. My 1st grader has come further along in the past few months then he did all year last year at Santa Cruz. I don't think the homework is too bad. They do it right after school and they know exactly what they need to do so they can get it done pretty quick. The curriculum is SO much better and they may be pushed a little harder, but it is definitely worth it! Best decision we made!

Alert | | i am concerned that the permanent site that was promised, may not become a reality. apparently the P&Z within city hall does not want to support LTS and thus far have been nitpicking the plans that they continously ask LTS to resubmit which is costing both time&money. so my question is, how would everyone feel about LTS if they said they were not able to go ahead with a permanent facility and instead had to use the portables from now on? i myself would be very torn....... | | listened for, they cannot be heard;looked for, they cannot be seen; felt for, they cannot be touched: old ninja proverb

Alert | | I went to school in portables, and I survived it just fine. If it came down to it, my children will continue at Legacy in portables. We LOVE Legacy!

Alert | | portables are fine, not having field trips,a cafeteria to eat in, a library, gymnasium etc etc etc are the things i am concerned about if the permanent site is a no go. the curriculum is top notch, but school isnt just about curriculum nor is it about extra curricular activies either. just a thought, i suppose we should see what happens. cant wait forever though as far as notifiying parents of what is going to happen for next yr....... | | listened for, they cannot be heard;looked for, they cannot be seen; felt for, they cannot be touched: old ninja proverb

Alert | | I love legacy.. I can provide my son extra curricular activities outside of school if needed. I tried so many times to get my son an IEP plan in the public schools and no one wanted help.. guess what I gave up and just put him in legacy and his teacher picked up on his needs and right away aranged a meeting.. and guess what.. we are getting an IEP plan that we didnt even have to fight and kick and scream about.. they OFFERED it! No public school would give my son the help he needed. I just put my son in legacy because he needed the challenge as he gets bored fast. I can't believe city is giving them so much grief.. its not like they have enough room in the schools they have open now for all the kids.. its a shame

Alert | I would have no problem with my kids going to Legacy in the portables. I know that they are trying very hard to do everything possible that they can to get the permanent site open. They've made it work with the trailers, so I don't feel like my kids are missing out on anything, except for a Library. However, I did hear that if they have to stay in the trailers, then they are going to try and add another whole trailer to use for a cafeteria. If they can do that, then that little one they use now would be made into a Library and computer lab. If they can get a bigger cafeteria, then they can serve lunch, which would make a lot of parents happy. They are trying to make that happen this school year still.
The building is done, it's just the sight they are waiting on. It doesn't surprise me that the city is giving them a hard time. That's typical. All of these new public schools going up and they can't give this one Charter school any help at all. You would think that with all of the students going there and all of the parents that like it so much, they would be moving things faster. Is there somewhere that we can go as parents and protest the hang-ups they are getting?
I did hear that field trips are going to happen. One per year per grade. They will rent a bus to do that. They have band and orchestra now for the 4-6 graders, so I believe that they are doing their best to make this a "normal" site for all of the kids. I'm sure that we will all be notified when they know what is final. Those that are happy there I'm sure won't have a problem staying. My kids love it. They would be sad if I put them somewhere else next year. Like I said, they don't feel like they are missing out on anything. Next year my son will be in 4th grade and he is excited to take band!
Legacy is not a religious school or a prep school. It is a free public Charter school and it has a MUCH better curriculum then any of the elementary public schools here in Maricopa, IMO.

Alert | | Legacy is not the end all and be all of schools. I have talked to people who have had their children in charter schools in other areas, and Legacy really is not meeting even that standard, so I would caution against pinning a gold star on Legacy.

Alert | Monkey~ To answer your questions, Legacy is not a private or religious school. It is a publicly funded charter school. There is no cost to attend. It is a back to basics curriculum with an accelerated program. I have a 6th and 2nd grader there. This is its inaugural year and I am sure that even the admin. is learning a great deal this year. I constantly am calling the principal and he is very good about answering my questions as they come up. Sour Apple may be right that it may not be the “be all of schools”, but in my, and many others, opinion it by far surpasses the options that we have here in Maricopa. Sometimes there is just a sour Apple in every bushel :o) No school is perfect but I have been pretty impressed with how I have seen my 2 kids blossom in this choice of curriculum.
The phone number is 423-9999. No, I don't work for the school, LOL (I do volunteer in 3 classes each week) but have been very happy with the school over all.

Alert | | Why can't I express my thoughts on the issue? I am not saying that the school is horrible or bad or terrible or just plain NOT WORKING...Just because I am not constantly singing its praises as the best in the west does not mean that I don't support what it is trying to accomplish. But, I have friends who have children in Pima Butte and Santa Rosa that are also very happy with their children's teachers and what they are learning. It seems that the minute you have a dissenting opinion about anything, you get pounced on in this forum. Geez! Besides that, I didn't even say anything negative about Legacy, I just said that it wasn't meeting the standard that others have come to expect in a charter school. My children did not go to a charter school, so I wouldn't know. I was just expressing thoughts that I had heard and talked about.

Alert | Day by day,
I am going to assume that you are also sour apple ????
I know many who are happy with other schools as well. I don't really mind that you have your own opinion, we all do. Not everything that has been posted here has been "gold star" worthy. I, too, would like to see a caffeteria and library. No one has said it's absolutely perfect, just that we are happy.
I agree, there are private schools and more established charter schools elsewhere that obviously will be doing better. It was just the way you were so quick to slam that Legacy is not the "end all be all" that made you sound very defensive of the fact that some of us are happy there. Legacy is in it's first year and there will be growing pains. I am always just a little suspicious of the motives of those who get on this thread and immediately say in essence: "there's better so don't be so happy with what you have....your school isn't perfect, either". It just came off a little defensive. With this site being anonymous by most , when I see posts like yours I think there must be an ulterior motive behind it such as you work for MUSD or something:o) . The reason being, you gave no reason for me to believe that you have a child at Legacy so how am I to know that you have first hand experience to give an opinion and because the only reason you gave to not be thrilled with Legacy was that your friends who have kids in other schools, again...no first hand experience to qualify an opinion, say that their schools are better. Now, how am I suppose to feel you are qualified to give an opinion on the school when this is all you gave me? I would hope that EVERY one thinks that the school they have chosen is the best for their child....not a perfect school, there is no such thing, but the best for them. Hopefully, we have all researched and put our kids best interest first and found the best place for them....regardless of where it is. I have a kid in high school in MUSD as well, and have been happy there. Others have chosen to send their high schoolers into town, I am happy that they found the right fit for their family. I like the idea of having my kids stay in Maricopa. Just my desire for my kids. Everyone is different.
I am sorry if you felt my initial response was attacking, that is rarely my intent. I, of course would like your opinion. If you have had a bad experience or concerns, by all means please feel free to enlighten us on your ideas as to how to make it better. We all want to see the schools improve. I would just like more info on why you are unhappy with something or what you see is better elsewhere. This poster wanted real info to help her make a decision and we are all just trying to give our reasons for liking (or not liking) Legacy. | | Changing lives one diaper at a time since 1993. Alert | | I will happily pin a gold star on Legacy. My daughter has excelled at such a rapid pace that I am simply amazed. They are doing a wonderful job their first year. I cannot wait for my other daughter to start kindergarten next year. Way to go Legacy!!!! | | I refuse to vote for any member of the CFR

Alert | I do have children who attend Legacy and I do not work for MUSD.
With that being said, I don't have several specific reasons why I like/don't like Legacy. In fact, I like it just fine. And that's my point. It is fine. The MUSD school my children attended (without the overcrowding) would have been fine. My children came from a private school out of state, which was great. Unfortunately, there aren't any private schools in the nearby area, so, Legacy is "fine." I don't know that they are learning any more than they would have learned at MUSD is all. I don't know if they are excelling in the curriculum because the curriculum is great or because they are reasonably bright children. I don't think they are brilliant, I just think they are bright. Whatever. Legacy is great-RAH RAH RAH.
