My wife was a classroom aide at MES last year. She paind the money for fingerprinting and background check that MUSD required. They promptly lost all the volunteers checks and asked them to be re-issued so we stopped payment on the first check and re-issued them another check.

A few weeks later my wife received an e-mail that all is well and she could begin as a TA never receiving her fingerprint card. Now my child is going to and my wife wants to work at Legacy and asked MUSD for her fingerprint card.

MUSD can't come up with it so she called the state Fingerprint agency through which all these fingerprints were to be processed. The State has no record of her fingerprint card or her background check.

Is this another MUSD fiasco? or is this more? at any rate how do we go about getting our money back from the school district for something they did not do? Anyone else have this problem? why were Classroom aides allowed access to children without the proper clearance? This seems like a serious breach of policy.

This is very interesting as money seems to disappear regularly in this district. I have my sources look into this and get back with the truth!

Was the check cashed?

I too was part of the group the checks "disappeared" from and had to cancel my check costing me $25.00. I refused to loose an additional amount of money since I was already having to pay in order to give my time to the school that so desperately needed volunteers since they wouldn't hire TA's due to budgets etc. I informed the school that I would cut them another check minus the amt. it took to cancel the first since it was their mistake in the first place, and after a guilt trip about how "I" was taking from the school they agreed. Afterwards without a chip on my shoulder I volunteered about weekly for the year. Well I was just recently wondering where that fingerprinting card was that was supposed to be good state wide for what 6 years? since I've decided to switch districts for my oldest child. Now I will have to do some researching. Hhhhmmmmmm, where did the money go? Hhhhmmmmm, did someone pocket it? John Flores, think you should look into this one? Scandals!! I will let you know what I find in my situation. <img src='http://www.85239.com/desktopmodules/ntforums/images/emoticons/sad.gif' height='20' width='20' border='0' title='Sad' align='absmiddle'>

A cancelled check is your receipt so the district must provide proof that they delivered the item in question. I doubt you'll hear much from them since some of them are experienced in deception.

As I understand it, checks/payments that were written for this fingerprint program were written/paid directly to CAASA, the group that sponsored the program. All monies were managed by CAASA, not MUSD.

If you have a question about fingerprint cards please contact:

Carolyn are you now speaking for Muriett?

IF the people who have posted called the District Office why haven't they responded by telling them that? If the monies where given to employees of MUSD, they would be responsible for making sure the company followed through?

Is that an incorrect assumption?

Carolyn is not speaking for me, I contacted her and asked her to post my contact information as I am honestly too busy to monitor this forum. She is correct in her information. The volunteer program was facilitated by the Prevention Center which is an extension of CAASA. The program was run through them, the affiliation with the district is that employees were used to do the training, and the volunteers were for the district. Not everyone in the office would know that information, so my apologies to anyone who has called recently and not given my contact information. I have just taken over the program, so I am now fielding all of the calls.

So in the essence of correct information, I would request that any questions or concerns regarding the program be made through me or Mrs. Ramirez, not through this website. This way we can compile a database of missing cards and resolve the problem as soon as possible.

My information once again is:

Phone:568-6129 Email: mmuriett@musd20.org

Inez Ramirez: 568-6189 Email: iramirez@musd20.org

Thank you everyone for your time

"MUSD can't come up with it so she called the state Fingerprint agency through which all these fingerprints were to be processed. The State has no record of her fingerprint card or her background check"

Everyone seems to be focusing on the money aspect and its disappearance. Sure that is a concern, however a bigger concern that I have is that the district would be/has been violating state law if they have been/are allowing individuals who have not been screened and cleared by the State through the state fingerprinting agency to be in contact with our children. Perhaps that is the audit that needs to take place at the district level, producing current fingerprint cards on all employees that have contact with children.
In the Phoenix Union High School District this past year more than 40 teachers were removed from classrooms for over a month until current cards were issued. The state is serious about this mandate and it is there to protect the children from many undesireable individuals in our society. It does not apply just to teachers, it applies to all that are in contact with kids in our public schools.

What do you say to that Mr. Murriet or maybe we should wait until you have a press release or until you conveniently find more time to post!

The responses by the board and staff continue to amaze me. Thank you so much for again giving us all the information we need. Again the district continues to show they are unable to manage themselves and that starts at the top!

The people on this topic trusted the district and made every effort to be of help to our students so they are not to blame. I thank each of you for working with our kids.

Carolyn I'm sorry you got involved and mean no offense to you!

OK here is what I learned about the Finger Print Process...

People who paid the $25 dollars probably only paid for the clearance, $46 dollars would have been paid for the actual card?

Inez should be able to pull the records of those who don't have a card.

By the way Tori everyone can use a hug especially you!

The volunteer website is still active and anyone can check it to see if their name is on the active list. If it is not on the active list Julie would be happy to look into their file as she still works for the outside agnecy that ran the volunteer program last year. She can be reached through the prevention center at 568.7100 ext. 3025

To get a fingerprint card, phantom is correct, it costs a great deal more and has to be sent in directly to the state. Also, the state does not confirm that fingerprints have been processed at a local level so whomever you contacted would not be able to provide that information.
