Parents please make sure you check your child daily for head lice!!! I know in the private schools they do not check children at all... This can be very costly to your family as it's not easy to get rid of and you have to wash your child's hair with the special soap not just hot water!!!! This time of year children get it ALOT!! It is easy to get and hard to get rid of your child could be playing with a class mate the scratches his/her head and then the child touches a toy and the next child comes along and picks up that toy and the scrathes his/her head and it's on from their. Yes they can jump and they walk fast they have to eat about every 4-6 hrs. And they can lay over 100 eggs a day!! If you happen to get it everything in our home has to be washed and cleaned and sprayed!! It's not fun please be safe and check your children daily!! Save someone else from getting it.. PLEASE!!!!

Why are lice checks not done in private schools? Are they not also governed by DHS?

I'm not sure I was told Monday by the school that my daughter goes to that they do not check for lice... I would like to know why... I know they do in public school...

And for the sake of all of us, stop throwing toothpicks into the toilets. The lice have learned to pole vault!

Lice don't jump, btw. It's anatomically impossible.

Prevention: (taken from the second link)

Prevention is critical in keeping kids free of head lice. Here are some simple rules to follow.

* Teach your children never to share their hairbrushes, combs, hats, bicycle helmets, coats, or other personal
* items with other children.
* Make sure that coats and hats are stored in individual cubbies at school, if possible.
* At home and at school, avoid piling children's coats and hats on top of each other.
* Have your child take her own pillow to a sleepover party, and wash the pillowcase afterward.
* If your child has long hair, keep it tied back or braided during lice outbreaks at school or child care. You may even want to cut your child's hair to a shorter length to make lice removal easier.

When washing or brushing your child's hair, make sure no lice or nits are present. Make this a part of your child's normal hair-grooming routine.

Nasty Nasty Nasty

Just doing it one day at a time. Change is good and it should be looked upon as an improvment! not a problem.
